Review

Lead section / infobox

[edit]
  • Unlink New Zealand (see MOS:OL).
  • now retired – I would avoid 'now' (see MOS:RELTIME).
  • Where in the flower is its throat (readers might like this be clarified)?
  • Link prostate (Prostrate shrub); pollinated; dispersed (Seed dispersal), and anywhere where these words are not linked where they first appear in the main text.
  • begins in spring – consider clarifying when spring in NZ occurs. Conversely, in the following section it should be clear to that October to December is the spring in NZ.

2.1 Discovery and naming

[edit]
Resolved Dracophyllum 23:24, 10 June 2021 (UTC) Green tickY AM[reply]
  • Amend It was discovered in November 2007 to 'Veronica jovellanoides was discovered in November 2007'.
  • when a local plant nursery owner and trustee of the NZ Native Forests Restoration Trust, Geoff Davidson probably reads better as 'when Geoff Davidson, a local plant nursery owner and trustee of the NZ Native Forests Restoration Trust (NZFRT).'
  • I would amend it was a Veronica to something like 'it belonged to the genus Veronica'.
  • So the two botanists, together with Geoff Davidson, published their findings is too conversational, consider amending to 'Davidson, Graham and Garnock-Jones published their findings'.
  • Replace the 2009 issue (Volume 47:3) of the with 'the', as this information is included in the citation.
  • I’m unsure what because it was preferred by many to still be used or more recent botanical consensus means.
  • There is a clear description of the resemblances between the species and other members of Veronica, but little to say why it is “highly distinctive”.
Not yet sorted (but most of the rest of this section is) AM

2.2 Etymology

[edit]
  • Unlink Jovellana repens (duplicated link); Jerusalem (MOS:OL).
  • The name itself is from the Macedonian name Berenice meaning: "Bearer of victory." This sentence is imo off-topic and should be edited out.
  • Riverhead speedwell should not be not in bold here.
  • comes after the fact that the Ernest Morgan Reserve lies just north of the Riverhead Pine Plantation, a popular recreation spot for Aucklanders needs copy editing to something like ‘is named after the Riverhead Pine Plantation, a popular recreation spot for Aucklanders located close to Riverhead Pine Plantation’.
  • It may not be clear to all readers why Bamboozle is a good name for something elusive.
  • Link reserve (Nature reserve).

3 Distribution and habitat

[edit]
  • Unlink NZ Native Forests Restoration Trust (duplicated link).
Red XN Not yet addressed (nya) AM
  • in the upper North Island in the Ernest Morgan Reserve northwest of Auckland has already be stated in the article. For the sake of conciseness, it shouldn't be repeated. Green tickY
  • The 20 ha reserve was formed… Is this sentence relevant to the article? Green tickY
  • I would amend 3 plants to ‘three plants’. (minor point) Green tickY
  • itself is redundant and should be deleted. Green tickY
  • Link liverworts. Green tickY
  • Apart from the sentence describing the location of the species, I’m unclear why any of the text of the second paragraph is relevant. Green tickY
@Amitchell125: "in the upper North Island in the Ernest Morgan Reserve northwest of Auckland" has only been stated prior in the lede and so should be included because no information should appear in the lede that isn't in the body, per MOS:INTRO.. AM
Understood. AM
The information on the reserve is relevant because it is its only known natural habitat. If it weren't for the land's protection as well as potentially the species of trees and the topography of the reserve, than the plant might be extinct. Though I admit the note of Māori use is not super relevant. Dracophyllum 01:23, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. AM
I've gone ahead and done some of these minor edits for you, as you say you've addressed them in your comment. Please revert as you see fit. Amitchell125 (talk) 05:46, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

4 Ecology

[edit]
  • The text is OK, but I’m unclear why this paragraph needs its own title. I would have included it within the previous section.
Not yet addressed. Amitchell125 (talk) 05:39, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
After consulting some FA's I think you're right so I will merge them Dracophyllum 05:41, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

5 Cultivation

[edit]
  • Unlink Auckland (duplicated link) and Wellington (MOS:OL).
  • are very attractive plants when in flower is too subjective to include.
  • not at all in Auckland – does this mean powdery mildew doesn’t occur here, or that the powdery mildew has no affect here?
  • The last sentence is imo partly off topic and partly too detailed, and I would remove it.

6 References

[edit]
  • The format used for the web references is inconsistent. I would recommend you use {{cite web |url= |title= |last= |first= |date= |website= |publisher= |access-date= }} where relevant. The journal citations all look fine.
  • Refs 1 & 4 are the same—ditto Refs 2 &3.

@Amitchell125: How do I cite existing citations from the taxobox? Dracophyllum 01:12, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dracophyllum: Done for you (use <ref name="ABC">{{cite web |title=TITLE |url=URL |website=WEBSITE |publisher=PUBLISHER |access-date=ACCESS DATE |date=2017}}</ref>, and then <ref name="ABC" /> for the other identical ref(s)). Hope this helps. Amitchell125 (talk) 06:31, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Amitchell125 Thanks :) Dracophyllum 06:49, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Amitchell125:

Hi, I've changed the article quite a lot since your last look (better pictures and some changes in the taxonomy section), it would good if you could have a look again and tell me if you think it can pass. Thanks, Dracophyllum 03:09, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On hold

[edit]

I'm putting the article on hold for a week until 14 June to allow time for the issues raised to be addressed. Regards, Amitchell125 (talk) 19:57, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
