Birthyear

Veronica's death certificate at findadeath.com lists her birthyear as 1922. Wikipedia, as well as IMDB list the year as 1919. So, my question : can a legal document contain false information? Which is the correct year? — Hotwine8 03:35, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

A death certificate is a legal document as to facts pertaining to the death, not to the birth. As a genealogist I frequently come across death certificates containing incorrect information about the date of birth. However, in the case of Veronica Lake's death certificate, it appears to have her correct year of birth: 1922. — Walloon 14:19, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

The first sentence of the bio says: Veronica Lake was born .... on November 22, 1919, and not 1919 as some biographies have previously stated. It is clear this is a typo. Veronica was born in 1922, and not in 1919. The 1930 Census supports her birth year, her death certificate show 1919 as her birth year, and even her mother stated in the 1983 biography that she had to add on 3 years to Veronica's age so that she could get work in Hollywood. Hence, she was a minor. In her obituary, it says that she added on three years so that she could get work. On the 1920 Census, her father is SINGLE and living in Pennsylvania. What more information does one need? Her parents were married in 1921 too. Who keeps deleting her son, Michael De Toth from the article? His birth IS Andre Anthony Michael De Toth, because it is mentioned in the book Peekaboo, and it is listed in the California Birth Index. Mislink

The link to "The Hour Before Dawn" leads to a 2000 music album, not the '40s movie.

I created the album page with no idea that there even was a movie of the same name. I only found out when I looked at the "what links here" for the album. 50 or 53 when she died?

There is some uncertainty as to her birthdate, alright; but there is inconsistency in the article where, by the dates in the beginning and the chart, it is said that she died at 50, and later, on the section of her final days it is stated that she was 53. Someone must correct this and give a uniform age, or explain the uncertainty over her age and birthdate. Nazroon 06:29, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Veronica was born in 1922, because on the 1920 Census for Pennsylvania her parents are not even married yet. Therefore, 1922 is her correct birth year. Her 1973 obituary states that she was born in 1922, because she had to lie about her age and say that her birth year was 1919 because she was a minor during that time and she would not be able to work in Hollywood. Every now and then, someone comes to this article and changes Lake's year of birth from 1922 to the erroneous 1919. The IMDb continues to carry 1919, which probably leads to the tampering here. — Walloon (talk) 06:26, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

into this paragraph: A reporter found her working as a barmaid at the all women's Martha Washington Hotel in Manhattan...In 1966, she had a brief stint as a TV hostess in Baltimore, Maryland, along with a largely ignored film role in Footsteps in the Snow.

Don't feel bad. After reading your first post earlier today, I checked the U.S. Census records of Veronica Lake's parents, and then added the footnote and changed the article text. I also corrected her year of birth from 1919 to 1922. — Walloon (talk) 05:55, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Earlier census records list Lake's paternal grandfather as German (see the 1910 U.S. Census, for example). Perhaps they started listing "Denmark" instead of "Germany" on Censuses after anti-German sentiment during WWI. Lake's paternal grandmother is listed as Irish on all censuses, though. Death in Montreal/Montpelier?

This is an intriguing story, especially in light of its singularity. Is the one source provided sufficient for it to be presented as truth? I find it a bit fantastic and therefore a little troubling, sort of like the similar story about John Barrymore's body. Not to say it isn't true, but a blog seems a little iffy as a sole source. Lake did NOT die in Montreal, at least not without huge cover up. Even the sourcing blog here notes that, "Every biography of Lake reports she died in Burlington, VT". Well, that's because, she did. He death certificate is on file there as is the funeral home where her body was held. Montpielier is 45 miles to the south of Burlington, and 100 miles south of Montreal, so why drive it there? Crappy Sourcing

For the record Lenburg, Jeff (2007). Peekaboo: The Story of Veronica Lake is a horrible poorly researched book. The stuff on wikipedia seems okay; but the problem with that book is he relied heavily on her mother as a source. Veronica hated her mother, and quit speaking to her in the early 40s. Her mother was the typical scary crazy stage mother, and she even had the gall to sue Veronica who was about to give birth to her last child because she had stopped 'support payments'. Veronica was heavily in debt at the time because of her husband's spending and a lack of films.

A copy of Veronica The Autobiography of Veronica Lake by Veronica Lake is probably the best source at the moment. Frankly a new biography is long overdue. Other than that I'd recommend newspaper articles and census info. But frankly Im not going to research for Wikipedia. That's someone else's job.--75.51.184.65 (talk) 09:19, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm moving the "in popular culture" section to here as it is completely unreferenced and contains some speculative and non-notable entries. I think we'd be better off with a Legacy section that discussed Lake's cultural impact in prose.

• Elvis Costello's song "Veronica" is arguably about Veronica Lake. The lyrics refer to her name, pinup status, and final days of poor health.
• Barry Smolin's song "Veronica Lake" is about a sighting of a homeless Veronica Lake at Union Station in Los Angeles.
• The Archie Comics character Veronica Lodge was partially named after Veronica Lake, who was in the midst of her early celebrity when the comic book character was introduced in the spring of 1942.

The latter is referenced again later in the article, with references, but I can no further mention of mental problems or any reference for it. This should be sourced or removed. I was going to fix the dead link to "Out of This World (1945 film)" in the "Later career" section when I discovered the entire article is under extended confirmed protection for "biographies of living people." Veronica Lake is not a living person. I have been editing for 10 years but don't have 500 edits so I can't contribute anything to this article. • She died at Medical Center Hospital in Burlington, Chittenden, Vermont.
• Her residence was given as 823 Park Avenue, New York, New York.
• She was attended by Dr Warren L Beeken from 6/23/1973 to 7/6/1973.
• She died at 4:15 AM on 7/7/1973.
• Her cause of death is given as 1.) Renal Failure x 72 hours; 2.) Hepatic Insufficiency x 10 days; 3.) Hepatitis x weeks. No autopsy was performed.
• She was cremated at the Mount Pleasant Crematory, St Johnsbury, Vermont. Disposition of her cremains is not given.

The "Informant" is given only as "Medical Records", but undoubtedly, she provided all the information recorded upon admission. But she may not have been a reliable informant.

The phrase "woman student" would be better than the use of the word "coed," which is outdated and sexist (even if that word is used to describe her role at the time). Men are as much coeds as women. As such, using the word "coed" only for women suggests that male students are the norm and female students are the exceptions or outliers (or even interlopers). I think this is a special case meriting special attention because the person writing in claims to have been the victim of someone else impersonating them. Can someone assist? This is a hoax

Bluerasberry You need to close this out as a hoax. The File:Constance Lake's 1973 obituary.jpg describes Stewart Lake as "famed mega recording artist and motion picture star Stewart Lake." I have been unable to find anything on the internet about Stewart Lake, so he couldn't have been such a star. The whole timeline in that is screwy. It says "Mrs. Lake and her husband" had been living in Stockton, California until 1960 when they allegedly moved to Brooklyn. Veronica Lake was born in Brooklyn. In the next column, it says they married in 1972. She was 50 years old in 1972, and not in good health. She would not have been giving birth to twins. She died in 1973. The fake marriage certificate says they married in 1971. Please see TCM bio of Veronica Lake. She was given the stage name of Lake by producer Arthur Hornblow in 1941. Veronica Lake published her autobiography in 1970, and this guy isn't part of it. The above request is a hoax. Close it out, please. — Maile (talk) 00:45, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

You need to read things carefully. My father and mother lived in Brooklyn until my father was discharged from the military in 1960. They moved from Brooklyn to Stockton in 1960. They also used their address in Brooklyn on their marriage license in Stockton, CA to stop Constance Frances Charlotta Trimble Ockleman Keane from learning where they truly resided. They continued to use their rental home in Brooklyn as needed on trips. How does that grab you? Would you take a chance at being sued for using someones name and image in a book in 1970? I do not think so. That is why my father was not a part of Donald Bain's fiction story. And further more my father sued the entire entire entertainment industry in August 1980 to stop the use of his name, image, and voice. Which the Federal Court Judge in Los Angeles ruled and issued an injunction to pack up all images, recordings, and other things and destroy them. Due to my father's record label RCA releasing recordings which they agreed to never release in August 1973. Why do you think RCA went quietly away in 1980? BMG ate them up when they lost the case my father filed against them. That is why you cannot find my father on the internet as you claim. You are the hoax maile66. Do you want to go against Court Orders by Appointed Judges? We can go to court face to face maile66. And I will win. You cannot question Court Orders.

Yes, you people enjoy accusing people of things they have not did. My mother was 49 in 1972. She was not ill until after myself and my deceased brother were born. You know nothing about my parents. So leave them alone. Eveything which you people write is taken from some other source who faked stories by other people who know nothing about anything. Like CNN and MSNBC who continue to write and report fake news stories. Lookup fake news stories. The media loves to tell lies.

Now maile66 if you would like to face me in a court of law. We can settle this matter in no time at all. Turner Classic Movies derives their stories from what others place without documentation. Oh please do not forget when a court of law rules. It rules the court order forever. Our attorney has registered my mother with the Celebrity Rights Orginization. You cannot use her name and image without permission. Our attorney is well versed in people like you. And he enjoys going to court against them. If another false accusation comes from you.
