Verne as Kuririn?

Is there any outside verification of this? It sounds like a rumor. Ianthegecko 05:43, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

Agreed that it sounds like a rumor. The movie itself is unconfirmed, much less the specific casting.--Gumbo T 03:23, 18 August 2005 (UTC)

Amish?

Resolved

Wasn't he either born, or lived few years (in his youth) in the Amish community? I seen no mention of it here.

If it is referenced it can be included.-Localzuk(talk) 17:56, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Added

I recently met and talked to Verne and was in attendance when he gave a Q&A at Fan eXpo here in Toronto. He said he operated a candy wrapping machine before he became a stuntman. so I added this. Danrduggan

This is unacceptable really as it has to be backed up by a source. It may be true but if the reader has no way of checking up on it then how can they know it is true? -Localzuk(talk) 17:56, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Sources

We seriously need references for the many claims in this article. As it stands, most of it could easily be deleted as unsourced. What we need is reliable sources. Please add them! I will take a look for some myself but if nothing changes in the next week or so I will do an info-cull I'm afraid.-Localzuk(talk) 17:57, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Oops, missed that Geico mention previously. Fr0 03:07, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm afraid that's not allowed per item 1 of the non-free content criteria. Videmus Omnia Talk 08:54, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

In my opinion, the picture currently in use is horrible--the focus of the picture seems to be the fan than the actual subject of the article. Additionally, it may symbolize some kind of association between the subject and that particular fan. It seems to me that the picture should be replaced immediately. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.66.234.29 (talk) 17:57, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

I agree. Whenever I uploaded pictures, I always cropped it to remove myself. It's poor practice to put a fan in a picture because as the above menioned, someone might think that there was some kind of association. ----Ðysepsion † Speak your mind 02:16, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Lawsuit

Sex tape

I removed the information about the sex tape per WP:BLP which requires the use of reliable sources which are "reliable, third-party, published sources." TMZ is neither reliable, mainstream nor published. ∴ Therefore | talk 00:42, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

I disagree TMZ has a video of the parties in question and it has aired several times. You tube also has posted teasers. This information is correct and accurate/ The L.A times has verified the sources her eis the source of the L.A times. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag/2008/06/in-the-immoral.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.171.1.97 (talk) 01:57, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

You disagree that TMZ isn't a reliable source? Please read what a reliable source is at WP:RS which is the guiding policy here. Nor is youtube a reliable source. And the LA Times is a link to a blog. Wikipedia is unambiguous about this as it relates to biographies of living people: Blogs are not reliable sources. Possibly this will appear in mainstream, *published* sources known for fact checking and then it may be a candidate for inclusion. Wikipedia is not a tabloid. ∴ Therefore | talk 02:03, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
You disagree that this isn't in the news? It is all over the place and the inclusion within this article hardly makes wikipedia a tabloid. Clips of the actual film are on major network television today. --Diablorex (talk) 03:18, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I saw it on MSNBC's Olbermann (as a jokey segment) and I'm sure others are reporting it second hand with no independent confirmation. WP:BLP requires us to have reliable sources and so far, I haven't seen any posted here. ∴ Therefore | talk 03:22, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Additionally, please read WP:GRAPEVINE and I quote:

Editors should remove any contentious material about living persons that is unsourced, relies upon sources that do not meet standards specified in Wikipedia:Verifiability, or is a conjectural interpretation of a source (see Wikipedia:No original research).

Then come back and tell me which part of Wikipedia:Verifiability is used to support the inclusion of TMZ. ∴ Therefore | talk 02:06, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

The San Francisco Chronicle just adde this story. It's taking the country by storm and you nerds refuse to put this up. It's correct, watchCBS tonight if you still don't believe it's true. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=7&entry_id=27632 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.171.1.97 (talk) 02:23, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

The Chronicle per se didn't add it -- this is a blog. Again, if you would please take the time to read WP:V (you should take a gander at act civilly and no personal attacks) you will see that the most important Wikipedia mantra is:

The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth—that is, whether readers are able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether we think it is true.

To sign your posts, add four tildes (that's that squiggly character a the top left of your keyboard) at the end of your comments. Also, use colons to indent your responses. Thanks! ∴ Therefore | talk 02:30, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
I've removed it, pending confirmation from a reliable source that the tape is actually of Mr. Troyer. The sources generally refer to it as a "purported" tape, or otherwise indicate that its origin and subject are as yet unknown. FCYTravis (talk) 07:00, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Nobody said you were lying. :) Wikipedia can't include information that isn't verifiable as being published in reliable sources. Now that it has been clearly published in reliable sources that the tape is of Troyer, and that he has filed a lawsuit regarding it, we can properly include it in the article. FCYTravis (talk) 04:10, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Information removed

It looks like quite a bit of information (including reference to the sex tape) has been removed, and the article (not including filmography) consists of three sentences. This seems a bit excessive. Was there any rationale behind this?--Lovepush (talk) 05:49, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

English language, please

The following sentence does not make any grammatical sense. I am a reasonable wikipedia novice so I'm not going to edit it directly and get some spotty 30 year old Playstation user unduly upset. But someone like that should change it.

"Troyer married Genevieve Gallen on February 22, 2004, but filed for an annulment on February 23, 2004; in order to foreclose any claim on the part of Gallen that she married him, saying that Gallen had fabricated the claim for her own financial gain"

Surreal Life cast photo

I've removed the photo of the cast from season four of The Surreal Life" (File:Thesurreallife44757.JPG), as it didn't have a rationale for this article as required by the non-free content policy. Normally I'd try and add one, but in this case I wasn't sure that the cast photo was needed - there are already better photos of Verne Troyer included, and the cast isn;t discussed in the article as such. Thus I was worried that it was more decorative than informative, so it won't meet the policy requirements. - Bilby (talk) 12:51, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Sorcerers Stone

For the record, its standard across Wikipedia, when making reference to this movie, to use the American title for American Actors Producers, Directors, Screen Writers, Song Writers, ect. This goes for American Awards that the movie may have been awarded or nominated for, as well as the American Studio that owns the movie.--JOJ Hutton 13:09, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Career

Is there really nothing that can be said about his career ? Why did he become an actor ? Was he always interested in film acting ? -- Beardo (talk) 03:37, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Well Wikipedia articles are not the source of information. They are the culmination of information. Perhaps a Google search would serve your purposes better than looking for it on Wikipedia. JOJ Hutton 04:13, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
I am trying to suggest ways to improve the article. Wikipedia is not intended to be a bunch of trivia and tabloid-style gossip after all. -- Beardo (talk) 08:08, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
Find some sources for whatever you think should be in the article and be bold. No need to have a discussion. If you think something should be in the article just do it.--JOJ Hutton 11:49, 9 August 2015 (UTC)

Form of dwarfism

Our article currently states Troyer had achondroplasia, with the citation "As stated by Troyer during interview on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, 25 September 2009." Sky News also says achondroplasia. But Cartilage–hair hypoplasia states that Troyer was affected, citing McKusick VA, Eldridge R, Hosteler JA, Ruangwit U, Egeland JA (1965). "Dwarfism In The Amish. II. Cartilage-hair hypoplasia". Bulletin of the Johns Hopkins Hospital. 116: 285–326. PMID 14284412. This seems a far more reliable source, but I can't access it to confirm that it supports the citation. Can anyone? Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 03:21, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

Looking further, it seems the Friday Night interview actually supports CHH, as that's what our article said until it was changed in this poorly-justified edit by an IP. News.com and this site both support CHH, so the only source that supports achondroplasia is Sky News, who probably just copied us. I'll edit accordingly. It is not on me or any other editor to prove your information is a useful addition to this article. It's up to you to convince other editors your information is properly sourced, within guidelines and a useful addition to the article. There is no way that could ever be possible with a 12,000 character addition. So I'd suggest you take it one paragraph at a time. You will need to show that each and every fact in each paragraph is sourced. What you "know" or any opinion or judgement is never going to be valid content. The sources you use must meet WP:RS. All images must illustrate some facet of the text. Even tho Troyer's is deceased, recently deceased people such as he are covered under one of our strictest policies, WP:BLP. Arguments such as WP:ILIKEIT and WP:OSE (commonly, respectively, personal preference and precident) will carry no weight. I'd strongly suggest you register an account and use it to edit, as it makes communication much easier. Please understand, this is not going to get worked out today, or likely, even in a couple of weeks. Your additions tripled the size of the article, making it bigger than John Wayne's article. That is certainly not appropriate. John from Idegon (talk) 22:46, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
Further, even properly sourced content can be disputed. John from Idegon (talk) 22:46, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

Facts

Sadly - most of the sources for information about his personal life and such tend to be absolute rubbish tabloids and things of that kind, so just about 0 reliable sources for any of it. I will still look into proper sourcing for the things listed as facts here - and if I can't find a proper source for them, I really don't know - a personal life section being blank seems a better option than it brimming with contentious nonsense. I will continue digging, when time permits. Challenger l (talk) 08:10, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

I have since zapped a paragraph of unsourced and poorly-sourced claims about him. Challenger l (talk) 04:58, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

Cremated

Regarding this edit, per WP:RSP Daily Mail is not considered a reliable source for this type of information, and given his recent death the subject still falls under the BLP policy. Also, non-notable relative names generally shouldn't be included in the infobox, and not seeing the rationale for so many duplicative alternative names. Any other views?
