[edit]There is no slavic language, only slavic languages. The name of the slavic language spoken in Macedonia (region) is the Macedonian language. Andreas 01:16, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- Unneutral and incorrect. Ever heard about the Bulgarian position on the Macedonian language topic? Also, Bulgarian is spoken in Pirin Macedonia, which makes your statement not only unneutral, but also factually wrong. → Тодор Божинов / Todor Bozhinov → Talk 18:44, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
Name issue
[edit]I object to the compromise. This is a Greek city, and because of this the only official name it has is in Greek. Also I have never heard it referred to as Ber by anyone in Veria or in the entire state of Imathia or in all of Greece. If were going to put the Slavic version of the cities name then we need to put every other countries version of Veria as well. Having just the Slavic version of the cities name along with the Greek implies a connection between the two when in fact there is none. Just because Greek people refer to Boston as "Vostoni" doesn’t mean we should have that in the Boston Wiki article.
- No one ever questioned that it's a Greek city. However, you don't seem to know that the criteria for listing a name in an article is not whether the language is official or not (nor has it ever been). Veria was ruled by the Slavs for centuries, right? Just like Izmir, Iznik, and Trabzon all have the Greek names for historical purposes, I see no reason why the Slavic name, or the Turkish name for that matter, can possibly hurt anybody. These are historically relevant names, and we are not helping the reader by ommiting them. It's common practise to have historical names at the top. See Plovdiv for example. —Khoikhoi 23:02, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
Ottoman conquest
[edit]According Encyclopaedia of Islam the conquest wat betweem 1385 and 1387, with a possible definitive occupation under Baiazet II (1389-1403). Dates 1361 and 1436 are too early and too late. Please quote the source for the dates 1361 and 1436--83.33.222.102 (talk) 13:36, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
