Been a long while since I've reviewed a nomination. Being unfamiliar with the band or its releases but familiar with the nominator's work, I'd like to take this one on. dannymusiceditor oops 15:47, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
- It is reasonably well written.

Note that any red marks aren't necessarily anything substantial to worry about, and yellows I have questions about.
Lead
[edit]- After changing their music style... ...from what? You could also say what they transformed into, but I'll leave that up to you, since we find out later in the paragraph.
- When approximately did the record go platinum? A year would do, if it's the same year as release add the month.
Background
[edit]- exchange akin to the Britpop sound of the 1990s but when Wanstall returned to the line up, they changed... to "akin to the Britpop sound of the 1990s until Wanstall returned to the line-up, when they changed..."
- Atlete recorded their debut album...
Composition and lyrics
[edit]- After examining the genre references, I noticed Stylus also describe the album as pop rock. Do you think it worth mentioning? If so, I would probably adjust the lead accordingly.
- I'm not against this necessarily, but the source isn't directly mentioning Athlete in the opening sentence. The only time they appear in that paragraph is when building off the previous sentence of "manag[ing] to be successful while at the same time maintain a strong level of credibility". MusicforthePeople (talk) 19:58, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
- That's fair. I believe they are insinuating that Athlete are, in fact, one of those bands, but I could also see the argument that such a conclusion could be WP:SYNTH. dannymusiceditor oops 21:01, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

- mixing Parklife chirpiness with the acid songwriting style of Joe Jackson (side note, I would leave "acid" be, because this is not very clear which she is referring to)
- exchange in their home town Deptford to either of "in their hometown, Deptford" or "in their hometown of Deptford".
- The second sentence of the second paragraph (the Pott quote) cuts in at a really awkward spot - I would recommend taking the liberty of finishing the first clause with "...and their uplifting experiences, starting from" and then going into the quote starting with "going to a dingy...
- and deals with music the band members used to listen to. Prominent examples, if any are available?
- I'm not familiar with No Ripcord, is this a reliable source?
- Here's various writers' credentials:

- I don't see the names in the article mentioned in this list, but one of them is an interview, which I am happy to let go for now. As for the other, I think the safest and most appropriate option would be to hide it until a clear verdict is reached - while I do see it on the list of usable album sources, it doesn't have a discussion linked and is apparently not notable enough for its own Wikipedia article. I think it would just prevent the potential of any trouble. (The point Ben Bollig makes isn't too far removed from the opinions of some more regularly used ones, either.) dannymusiceditor oops 20:56, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hidden for now. MusicforthePeople (talk) 21:15, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Release
[edit]- To avoid confusing readers who jump to this section, you should add Following "You Got the Style", preceding the first sentence.
- I would clarify that "On and On" is a B-side. (proper noun?)
- Should Brighton be linked?
- You have 23 May 2003 listed here, which is correct, but the infobox reads 23 June for "Westside".
- Do the same for "Count Me In" as a B-side.
- A comment: I love that the American bonus track is "A Few Differences". This is meme material from a band.
Critical reception, commercial performance, track listing
[edit]Zero complaints.
Personnel
[edit]- Only one thought: it's fascinating they chose to keep their names out of their debut album, but it's important they are highlighted. Perhaps you could source them separately as members of the band?
- Everything else looks great!
Verdict
[edit]On hold.Pass.
- Made the changes. MusicforthePeople (talk) 21:59, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
- Question: I am familiar with most of your work, and often it lacks images - do you think any of the available images of Athlete or its members on Commons would be relevant to add to the article somewhere? It isn't required, but I recommend it.
- I try to add a photo if there's one from the touring cycle; I don't normally bother with individual member shots unless it's something that truly stands out (e.g. in Tell All Your Friends: a photo of John Nolan detailing him and another member leaving Taking Back Sunday). MusicforthePeople (talk) 21:59, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, Nolan would be a perfect example of what I was going for. I won't hold GAN up for this, but I would suggest doing that if you can connect a caption to it like the example. dannymusiceditor oops 22:01, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
