Fuel oil

[edit]

I've removed the links that were recently added for vegetable oil as fuel. The reasoning was that each of the other entries were for different kinds of substances that you might refer to as "vegetable oil". The fuel links were for uses of vegetable oil. I had trouble seeing a situation where a user would be typing in "vegetable oil" expecting to see fuel, and need an entry to help them get there. Waitak 13:22, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is not "fuel oil". That is something else. This is "vegetable oil". But in the same way that there are articles about ethanol that are details of the liquid and articles about ethanol as a fuel, there are articles about details of vegetable oil and articles about using it in cars. Yes, people will type "vegetable oil" and want to get to "vegetable oil used as fuel", far more than will type "vegetable oil used as fuel". Just because this is different type than the other disambiguations does not seem a valid reason to remove it.
If a user types in "fuel oil" they will not see anything about vegetable oil. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Vincecate (talkcontribs).
Yes, I understand that it's something else. My apologies for not being clearer in my response. You're speaking of a usage of (pressed) vegetable oil. I don't think it belongs here any more than cooking oil, drying oils, emulsifying oils or any of the other uses of vegetable oil. This page exists to disambiguate between different things that people might mean by "vegetable oil". Vegetable oil used as fuel is the very same stuff as what's discussed in the article on vegetable oil (which points to vegetable fats and oils).
In fact, that page talks about all of the major uses of what people normally think of as vegetable oil, including the use of vegetable oil as fuel. That section also points to the main article on the subject. I can't think of a circumstance where somebody would end up at this disambiguation page, not having had the correct article already right in front of them. Hence... it really doesn't need to be here.
Could we please discuss it here before you add it again, if you still think it's appropriate? Consensus is one of the major reasons why Wikipedia works as well as it does. Waitak 15:36, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So if instead of vegetable oil used as fuel it said vegetable oil (used as fuel) then it would be ok? Vincecate 15:22, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
