Move to Veerapandiya Kattabomman (film)
[edit]In my opinion, the article named Veerapandiya Kattabomman should have the biographical details about the person, so this page has to be moved as stated above. There are infact three articles about the person, to be merged and brought here. See Talk:Kattabomman for more details. ~ srini 08:52, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Your Request Honoured
[edit]Hello all,
Yes I have moved and merged the other articles from of same content with different spellings and moved the Movie page of Kattabomman to Veerapandiya Kattabomman (film).Hope the problem is solved. --Southernstar 15:48, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
first of all i would like to say that there is no evidence whatsoever whether kattabomman was a pandya. The title Veera Pandya Kattabomman was entrusted in the minds of the people only after the movie was made. The real name was Kattabommu Naicker as mentioned in Tinnevelly Gazateer 1917, and there is no way any naicker could have been a pandya. I suggest we rename the title from Veerapandiya Kattabomman to Kattabomman. Sudarshan1983 (talk) 21:43, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Dear Sudarshan1983, The Pandiya in Veerapandiya Kattabomman is more symbolic of a honorific title after he taking the crown. It does not mean that he is a Pandya as they were out of the scene by 16th century. The British Gazateer's record is of course right but official title in his state was as such. Also the name Veerapandiya Kattabomman got etched in public minds because of the film, but they should have arrived to name the movie after enough research and not by sheer filmy oversight. Throughout the historic chronicles concerning Veerapandiya Kattabomman from various sources one may come up with vast array of names and titles like * Jaga Veerapandiya Kattabomman * Kattabomulu * Gettibomulu * Kattabomma Nayak * Kattabomma Nayakkar ... so on. So which one will you take it as final?
The reason for finally narrowing in the name Veerapandiya Kattabomman is because it is the name recogonised by the State Government of Tamil Nadu.Just because a British Gazateer in 1917 (after 2 centuries) recorded his name as Kattabommu Naicker doesn’t mean we have to follow that religiously. QUESTION TO Pearll's sun
[edit]Pearll's sun keeps on reverting and asking for the proof on Kattabomman when it was written that Kattabomman belongs to Rajakambalam branch of Kavarai(Balija Naidu) caste. If this gentleman is questioning about the Rajakambalam origin of Kattabomman I suggest him to visit the site http://rajakambalam.com/hello.htm. If he has questions about Kavarais(Balija Naidus)and the branch Rajakambalams I can furnish details on that too.First of all I would like to know what kind of proof this gentleman is seeking ? I would try to clarify. If Pearll's sun's querry is about Rajakambalam's affiliation to Kattabomman then visiting the site I mentioned should clarify any doubt whatsoever that exists. I would be glad if Pearll's sun gives a feed back on this issue. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.180.35.157 (talk) 17:21, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
FACT
[edit]I mentioned in the article again that Kattabomman belonged to Kambala branch of golla caste (which is a fact) eventhough Pearll's sun reverted this fact twice before. If he intends to revert this fact again for his own reasons I request him to visit the site http://rajakambalam.com/hello.htm. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.180.35.157 (talk) 20:31, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Caste Claims
[edit]There seem to be an Balija caste fanatic cum idiot whose sole mission is to insert Balija caste claims into every damn telugu ruler in South India. He spends his major energy in mindless arguments and quarells with fellow editors all over wikipedia. The Kattabomman clan is part of Kambalathu Naicker, notably Rajakambalathar's [Royal/Ruling Kambala clan]. They also claim that they are yadavs/ Golla clan. There were many of that community as polygars in Tamil Nadu. Basically Balija's are notably into trade and agriculture and are mostly concentrated in parts of Madras. Not all Naidu/Nayak/Naickers are Balija's and not all Balija's are of ruling clas [if there was any]. Also these bombastic claims are laced with erronous citations from some older British gazattes, where the gazette authors himself has questioned about the authenticity of the claims. It has come to no surprise that the same nameless/unregistered nut case is here. Fort5000 (talk) 20:08, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
Assessment comment
[edit]The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Veerapandiya Kattabomman/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.
The details given in this page are not correct.
Under the subtitle "Events", it is stated that veerapandiya kattabomman refused to the pay taxes to the British. But, the real fact is he paid the taxes to them and the dispute arised only when he delayed the payment of the taxes due to some unforeseen circumstances. One cannot distort the facts to glorify the past, and we cannot take a film as a source for writing history, as the film might be done without any verification of facts / to glorify the India's freedom struggle. |

Films as sources
[edit]Please do not use depictions in films as historical truths in this article. If a film has been made about him then it is ok to mention the thing but not to make claims based upon what the film says about him. Movies employ dramatic license and are not reliable for statements of fact. - Sitush (talk) 12:09, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
The Film Katta bomman

- So what? That information is relevant to the article about the film but, as I said in the preceding section, it is not necessarily correct from a historical perspective. - Sitush (talk) 12:50, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
Name
[edit]Someone keeps changing the name of this person. The article body should reflect the article title, so if you think that the name is wrong then you need to consider the information at WP:COMMONNAME and WP:RM. There is nothing to stop us including alternate names along with the one currently used as the title, as we already do, but they must be verifiable. - Sitush (talk) 14:20, 15 May 2018 (UTC)
