Caucasus

[edit]

Why are the Caucasian nations listed here? How is, for instance, the Armenian jam related to Russian varenye? In fact, Armenians call it muraba, and it should be in murabba article, not here. --Երևանցի talk 00:33, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I could judge from some recipes, images, wiktionary, and from the murabba article, varenye and murabba are the same thing. The main difference to jam is that whole fruits (or berries) are kept, and the sirup remains liquid, and no gelling agents are added, while jam in the narrow sense is a rather homogeneous soft paste intended to be used mainly as a spread. (Of course, the word jam may also be also used in a wide sense to cover any such thing.) So I also thought about merging both articles into one. However, if you know that these are different things and can explain it, I would not object. If you can add more information on the Caucasian traditions into the murabba article, that would be great.Off-shell (talk) 20:14, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
They might be (and probably are) the same thing, but I think that's not very important here. I don't know about Georgians and Azeris (apparently they do too), but Armenians only call it muraba and it doesn't make sense to me why it should be included in this article and not in murabba article. At least the name is the same. --Երևանցի talk 22:37, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'll try to do some research and will try my best to add about the Caucasian "versions" in murabba article. --Երևանցի talk 23:00, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Перевод

[edit]

Removed the Russian "варение" which indeed means the process of cooking, and not jam. Kept the alternative English spelling "varenie", because it is also used as a transliteration of "варенье" (e.g. [1], [2]). --Off-shell (talk) 21:11, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
