Examples?

Merge

This is the bigger article of the two to be merged, so the other article would do well with this merged with it as well as the fact that "vanity domain" and "vanity url" are practically the same. They sound the same at least. I think that if you merged the articles the "vanity subdomain" topic would go in a section of "vanity url". If you turned this on it's head you could merge "vanity url" into "vanity domain" which would still need the topic of the "vanity subdomains" as a section. Is this article useful anymore?

In the 1990s, the concept of 'vanity domains' was probably useful, as the norm was for individuals to use the domain name of their ISP, school, employer et cetera. Nowadays, domain names are commodities and there is no vanity involved in having a personal one. Rather, the motive, as mentioned in the article, is to be able to keep one's website names and email addresses when changing providers. 88.113.185.91 (talk) 00:25, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

If you want an example I would be delighted if you used my domain name of http://ian.gent - bought recently. Unusual in that my real surname is a TLD, no domain hacking needed. But I assume it's not appropriate for me to add it. 138.251.207.116 (talk) 20:30, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Better name? "vanity" is unnecessarily derogatory

I haven't heard this name "vanity domain", or maybe I have but not in years. I think if some ponce bought a domain with his name in it, I might slag him off saying it's a vanity domain, but outside of the context of insulting someone I don't think I'd use this term. I guess I'd call it a "personal domain name", "personalised domain name", or just a "personal website" (I know you can have a website that doesn't have its own domain, or that doesn't have your name in the URL, but this sort of detail isn't something that's important).

The proper name is "Brand TLD"

There is no such thing as a "Vanity Domain." A "Vanity domain" is called a "Brand TLD" by ICANN. See <https://icannwiki.org/Brand_TLD>.
