Compacted
[edit]I saw that I was getting a bit to wordy nearly putting whole bios where it should be brief.
- Being a disambiguation page, there should be no bios at all, just enough info to identify the entry. Kraxler (talk) 13:29, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
Arbitrary--arbitration
[edit]Did somebody delete the discussion of an entry? I would have enjoyed engaging. (cur | prev) 01:17, 24 December 2012 Kxxxxr (talk | contribs) . . (2,454 bytes) (-86) . . (→See also: the character's name was Ransaleer)[citation needed] (undo) JGVR (talk) 05:42, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
You may create the page "Ransaleer", but consider checking the search results below to see whether the topic is already covered. JGVR (talk) 05:55, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- According to Archie Bunker's Place#Characters, the character's name was "Edgar Van Ranseleer" and thus is not to be listed at this disambiguation page. Kraxler (talk) 16:46, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation?
[edit]A serious discussion is warranted regarding the validity of the disambiguation tag even being on this page being it is way to broad in its content, designating it as disambiguation page is entirely antithetical to the intent of disambiguation. There are actual dab pages for Philip van Rensselaer, Stephen van Rensselaer Nicholas van Rensselaer Kiliaen van Rensselaer and for the correct reason. A compilation of the numerous van Rensselaer's being called "dab" is wrong.

- It is in line with universal practice on Wikipedia for common surnames. Compare Van Hollen, Williams (which goes through several layers), Gomez, Bunsen, etc. Why is this different? Acroterion (talk) 02:32, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
OK I randomly picked Williams it is NOT a disambiguation page. Your point is??.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JGVR (talk • contribs) 02:56, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
- Of course it's a disambiguation page, says so right at the top. If you want to write Van Rensselaer (surname), in the same manner as Williams (surname), which is linked from the main Williams page, be my guest. Acroterion (talk) 03:04, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
Like I said this page should not be tagged as disambiguation when in reality it is merely a who's who and purposeful disambiguation pages already exist. keeping it tagged as such puts more constraint on the page because editors are not to use sentences. where on a list of names there is more freedom for editing..JGVR (talk) 03:16, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
