Talk:Vaccination of dogs
Untitled
[edit]This article has been written (largely by me) from a North American viewpoint. Probably needs input from veterinarians in other parts of the world. --Caroldermoid (talk • contribs) 19:14, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- I added some concise detail to the section on Non-Core vaccines, specifically, the rattlesnake vaccine. Where I live (Southern California), I\it is a more common vaccine. Some of the most popular dog parks in Los Angeles have periodic problems with increased rattlesnake presence and every year I hear of at least a one fatal bite from Runyon Canyon. It's a controversial vaccine and maybe one day I'll do an article on it by itself but I don't see the need at present.Lisapollison 02:25, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Removal of poorly sourced claims -- May 2011
[edit]I have removed claims sourced to a non-notable, commercial website not meeting WP:RS. Please discuss edits and sourcing here and achieve consensus here before trying to readd. Flowanda | Talk 05:35, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Combined with feline vaccination into vaccination of pets or small animals article?
[edit]I've been updating this article, as well as Feline vaccination and noticed a lot of overlap. Should these two articles be combined into a vaccination of pets/small animals article? Adelle Frank (talk) 14:46, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
Merger proposal of DA2PPC vaccine into Vaccination of dogs
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was not to merge. DferDaisy (talk) 23:06, 8 April 2019 (UTC)
I propose to merge DA2PPC vaccine into Vaccination of dogs. DA2PPC vaccine contains unreferenced information which is better cited and explained in Vaccination of dogs. The two pages overlap in subject, and a specific page for each variation of combination dog vaccine is not required. DferDaisy (talk) 19:03, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
- There seems to be no reason to merge. The vaccination of dogs article is an extremely broad-brush summary; there is no reason why articles on individual vaccines should not also exist. Espresso Addict (talk) 03:44, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
Updated citations available
[edit]There are newer updates available for these two documents:
- 2011 AAHA Canine Vaccination Guidelines → 2017 AAHA Canine Vaccination Guidelines
- Vaccination Guidelines Group (VGG) of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) (2010) → GUIDELINES FOR THE VACCINATION OF DOGS AND CATS 2016
I did NOT update them in the article because both of these are cited multiple times and I'm not equipped to verify if anything has changed (making some of the citations incorrect). Someone with more experience in this subject should check these before updating the references.

Anti-vaxxer original research
[edit]The "Rabies (disputed)" section was very opinionated (POV); I fixed that. But the "Controversy" section is mostly original research. There is no citation about any such controvery, and the one source it does cite does not have anything like that in the document. Whoever wrote it gloms on to one segment of the source which was advising against "too frequent" vaccinations, and SYNTHed that into a POV that vaccinations are given "needlessly" (not needed at all), rather than a caution about not giving them too "frequently" (needless). I tagged that section with original-research template. Normal Op (talk) 02:54, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
Dog vaccines given to humans?
[edit]I see no reason why the current lyme vaccine for dogs wouldn't work fine for people living in Europe or USA?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccination_of_dogs#Non-Core_vaccines
For dogs vets may recommend administering a vaccine against the bacteria Bordetella, which causes respiratory illness commonly known as "kennel cough". If this vaccine was given to humans, it might protect against Pertussis = Whooping Cough? The bacteria causing Pertussis is similar to bacteria causing kennel cough.
If I knew a vet, I could ask her to vaccinate me, lyme vaccine and kennel cough vaccine?
