FYI on a move request

[edit]

Today, I have requested moving this page from Lahti-Kotkan satama commuter railVR commuter rail. A request had to be made as the latter (currently a redirect to the former) has more than one item on its edit history. Tavarajuna (talk) 17:38, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lahti-Kotkan satama commuter railVR commuter rail – The actual name of said commuter rail system is "VR commuter rail", the current name "Lahti-Kotkan satama commuter rail" refers to only one of its seven services. However, VR commuter rail has previously redirected to another, mostly separate system called Helsinki commuter rail which is an outdated redirection and nowadays somewhat incorrect. TLDR: "VR commuter rail" should be the name of a page currently titled "Lahti-Kotkan satama commuter rail". @Tavarajuna: Pinging nominator as it doesn't seem as though they were ever informed that this request went to full discussion. Steel1943 (talk) 19:53, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, the sources don't seem to use the title you propose. Dr. Vogel (talk) 11:12, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Not too familiar with rail stuff, but isn't the official website calling this VR commuter traffic rather than VR commuter rail? That said, the current title indeed appears to be very much not the right one, so a move to something is in order. -Ljleppan (talk) 10:19, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Commuter rail" is what these systems are normally called around the world, and on Wikipedia. "Commuter traffic" is a literal translation from the Finnish "Lähijunaliikenne". Even HSL, who organise commuter rail services that VR run, call it commuter rail CarrotPieFI (talk) 05:02, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find anything on the HSL website that uses the term "VR commuter rail". The closes is this poster which calls it "VR Commuter train services". Google gives no relevant results for "VR commuter rail" -wikipedia, but "VR commuter traffic" -wikipedia produces plenty of hits to the vr.fi domain. I do acknowledge that I'm not a train aficionado, but I'm not really seeing any usage for the proposed new title. -Ljleppan (talk) 12:19, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
A quick look at the Wikipedia article tiltles page brings up this:

Naturalness – The title is one that readers are likely to look or search for and that editors would naturally use to link to the article from other articles. Such a title usually conveys what the subject is actually called in English.

Searching Wikipedia for "commuter traffic" brings up barely any related results, but "commuter rail" brings up dozens of pages for various systems, including the adjacent Helsinki commuter rail system. Therefore, I believe commuter rail should be used, as it is by far the most common of the two in article titles. CarrotPieFI (talk) 12:31, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
