Fake news
The nonsense about "De wey" Knuckles being racist should be removed. Polygon isn't a reliable source. It is a far-left SJW site that thinks everything is racist and sexist. Classic leftist nuttiness and fake news. Speaking in a foreign accent is now racist! Haha! I bet these pathetic libtards also think Apu from the Simpsons is racist. Liberals are disgusting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Show us de wey (talk • contribs) 10:03, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- While I personally agree with the Ugandan Knuckles = Racist thing being pretty dumb (for both those calling it racist and those players doing the meme actually in a racist fashion who are using VRChat to push their crappy worldviews), your statement comes off as a total copypasta. If you want to request a change for the page, I'd try lurking on Wikipedia talk pages more to get a general feel for how requests are written, then try again, perhaps omitting the word "libtard" and any other unwarranted political insults. suggested edits: article is a stub
so i've been researching vrchat, such as the users ranks: https://docs.vrchat.com/docs/vrchat-safety-and-trust-system and i would also write an article for avatars 3.0: https://docs.vrchat.com/docs/what-is-avatars-30 i also would recommend writing up a new section with VRChat's financial history, did you know they closed a 10 million deal recently? they also launched a new optional paid service: vrchat plus! very important. i would also do a mild reference to different headsets prices and how they work. headsets such as htc vive, valve index, the new oculus quest etc. you could also link to vrchats website: https://vrchat.com/ i will attempt to do this edit. (there seemed it maybe, possibly have been a fake website at vrchat.net, but i didnt research it) and then give people a guide to what new players need to know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:152:4502:6F40:245E:6377:F402:A144 (talk) 02:59, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
Proposing minor additions to the VRChat Plus section as well as asking about controversies
Hello fellow wikipedians!
First of all, I'm planning on updating the list with the VRChat plus benefits to include photo invites that were added on the second of February, 2021 (see official release notes from VRChat). Just letting everyone know as a courtesy - I will complete such a small edit after I post this.
On another note, I think that recent controversies (eg VRChat plus, content theft, game modification) would be a notable thing to include in the article, say under a "controversies" section. The problem, however, is that these issues get little in terms of verifiable, much less citable sources, as while they are, in my personal observation/opinion, important to and impact the people who play the game, they receive little attention from news publications. VRChat is a niche game in a niche medium, so this isn't surprising. What additionally makes this harder is that many of VRChat's official announcements are locked behind what I see as an "un-citable" source - being impossible to link to without an account and the joining a sorta invite-only group on the social media/message platform Discord (software) - correct me if I'm wrong. What do other wikipedians think about obtaining this kind of information? Are there other outlets to obtain this information? Is it possible to cite something like announcements from an official Discord group (called a "server")? Should we leave this kind of information out of Wikipedia because it does not have enough notoriety to be covered by many/any major publishers other than the company itself? I would appreciate any thoughts on the subject - thanks! ~the.one.and.the.only~ (talk) 09:12, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Remove articles about knockles
I'm suggesting this because the knockles are rather rare now. It's just a dead meme by now. We should talk more about present trends in VRChat world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fls81245 (talk • contribs) 01:06, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
- I would disagree with this change - the "Ugandan Knuckles" phenomenon was a part of VRChat's history, and part of Wikipedia's encyclopedic purpose is to inform people of that history, especially when said history made actual headlines outside of the niche VR space it is normally confined to. I do agree though, that more recent things related to VRChat need to be written about, however that presents some of the same issues which I outlined in this specific section of this talk page. If you have any thoughts on how to approach these new pieces of information or trends, or have some ideas of your own, feel free to ask! ~the.one.and.the.only~ (talk) 09:48, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Oculus Quest runs Android
I think that the technical platform for the Oculus Quest version is Android. It's not available via the Google Play store, but technically it's still Android and that's what should be entered in the infobox. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_video_game#Syntax_guide Martin Kraus (talk) 21:06, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- I agree, however, the Android version is limited to the Oculus Quest device family/ecosystem exclusively - would it make sense to list the platform as "Android (via Oculus Quest)" or similar (such as without "via")? Lemme know what you think! ~the.one.and.the.only~ (talk) 09:54, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- I've changed my mind a couple of months ago: Oculus Quest (2) should probably be considered a console like other mobile gaming devices. Martin Kraus (talk) 15:15, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Academic studies
A quick search on Google Scholar brings up several scientific papers that either study aspects of VRChat, or use it a medium for experimentation. These studies could be incorporated into the article to provide more information on the game's real world significance. Yeeno (talk) 22:39, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
Updated in-game image for the "Features" section?
The in-game image in the "Features" section is quite outdated (added in 2018, using very old nameplates and very old hub world). Would someone be up for getting a new image? I'm thinking of taking one myself, but I'm currently out of touch with the rules/guidelines on filming consent with wikipedia photographs, so I'll need to catch up on that. Ideally it would take place in either one of the main worlds (pug, black cat, midnight rooftop, murder, etc) or one of the actively developed official worlds (home or hub as far as I know), include a range of avatar types, and include a full display of the newer nameplate system (with user icons on at least one) to give the broadest spectrum of the game contents. ~the.one.and.the.only~ (talk) 05:36, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
hand tracking via remote
it's not just the quest 2 touch controller that can do that! Pico 4 and others can do that SharkieBarkieBark (talk) 13:04, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
Kermit suicide?
Is the meme “I am going to Kermit suicide” noteworthy enough to be included on this page? ThighFish (talk) 00:04, 9 March 2022 (UTC)
