During the second deployment to the Med fighters from VF-33 were launched on 8 June 1967 dring the Six-Day War in response to distress calls from the U.S. SIGINT ship USS Liberty (AGTR-5), which was under attack from Israeli aircraft and navy torpedo boats in international waters off the Sinai Peninsula, but were recalled by President Lyndon B. Johnson, who was quoted as saying he "didn't want to embarrass our ally."[1]

[edit]
