Few thoughts about category
[edit]Is it okay to call Krishna Menon a Bengali politician just because he contested an election from West Bengal? In this context, imagine adding the categories Andhra Pradesh politicians and Karnataka politicians in Indira Gandhi. Salih (talk) 16:30, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Salih. Well, there was earlier a category in VKKM article saying he was a Maharashtra politician (I did not add that, it was someone else). So I added the category Bengali politician, and the more specific category Mumbai politician (removing the Maharashtra category). Both are there for the same kind of reason. I am not very keen on those categories, but either both must be removed, or both must stay. You can decide as you wish. I know that VKKM was particularly proud of his contesting from outside his home state, as a mark of his non-attachment to regional sentiments (and he was critical of Nehru contesting only from Allahabad, his home turf); VKKM finally contested his last election from Trivandrum when all options had run out (but again, he was reluctant to do so from Calicut). So perhaps he himself would have been happy to be included in those categories (not that this is very decisive, but just a remark). I don't know how Indira Gandhi viewed contesting outside Allahabad, but perhaps not so ascetically as VKKM. If Indira Gandhi is not included in those categories, and a regional tag on a politician is conferred by birth, yes, both those should be removed. Karnan (talk) 22:45, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the well thought out reply. I agree with you that we should either remove both category or keep them. So let's post this discussion on VKKM's talk page and see what others think. Salih (talk) 04:12, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Truly unmarried?
[edit]A library index has a reference to "Lall, Shusheila, wife of Indian diplomat Krishna Menon in New York"
I have also seen a private document referring to "Arthur & Shusheila Lall" (Krishna Menon was mentor to Arthur), but as Arthur's wife was called Betty, I wonder if Shusheila might have been e.g. a sister or aunt to Arthur, who married Menon 'inconspicuously' (as I can find no other references to his being married). --Ozaru (talk) 15:00, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
OK, ignore the above: the Albany librarians have confirmed it was an error in their archives. Ozaru (talk) 19:30, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Major areas for copy editing
[edit]The Early Life section has excessive and irrelevant information on Menon's family, famlly names, lineage, real estate details not directly of significant relevance to the subject of the article. Recommend major portion of the content to be removed as it also lacks adequate citations and does not add real value to the article.
Intellectual Reputation section: Contains excessive amount of promotional, advertizement type of content per MOS: PUFFERY, FLOWERY, PROMO. This section to be concised per WP:CONCISE and retain more factual information. Rainbowpassion (talk) 14:46, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- the current copy-editing has more or less eliminated the entire point of a lede (haven't checked the rest yet). it's now a dry random list of a few things he did, in contrast to a presentation of who he was and why that was important. I don't know what the lede was like before you started chopping it down (unless it was the super repetitive version), but this can't stand either Hölderlin2019 (talk) 17:03, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- This page was already tagged as article's lead section is too long and there was not only repetitive content but also highly promotional in nature and more like an advertisement. However, the content that was in Lead is not fully eliminated but merged or present under its relevant sections such as Sino-Indian War, Minister of Defence. Please check revision history in early Feb you should find all the details. Rainbowpassion (talk) 07:32, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'll try to take an extended look later, but randomly scanning a few diffs concerns me - while I agree the original article was turgid, ill-structured, and repetitive, you appear to not only have "sanitized" everything, at cost of precision and accuracy, but even rewritten direct quotes in the process. Hölderlin2019 (talk) 13:28, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, please take a look at it in detail. I may have simplified content in line with NPOV, MOS:PROMO, PUFFERY but not rewritten content within direct quotes. Rainbowpassion (talk) 15:30, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- I have taken a second look and added back as-is content from previous version, particularly in the Intellectual Reputation section which is where the major fluff, promotional content is. Hope this helps. I still think this section is overly articulated and besides do we need a separate section to talk so extensively about the subject's intellectual capacities. Fewer examples would align to a more CONCISE version. Rainbowpassion (talk) 15:58, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

- Have added brief summary to the Lead from the original content to summarize more points of the work of the subject. Thanks! Rainbowpassion (talk) 07:22, 21 March 2024 (UTC)
