Talk:Utah Territorial Militia
Stronger Sources
[edit]We need to find a stronger source than:
- Sweeney, John (1974-01-01). "A History of the Nauvoo Legion in Illinois". Theses and Dissertations.
- Young, Brigham, and Everett L. Cooley. Diary of Brigham Young, 1857. Tanner Trust Fund, University of Utah Library, 1980 found online at:https://collections.lib.utah.edu/details?id=328944 page 31
- Andrew Jenson, LDS Biographical Encyclopedia, gives a person by person listing of the various local positions held in the legion, such as Hugh S. Gowans who in 1868 was elected adjutant of cavalry in a Tooele County-based Battalion of Cavalry of the Legion (Vol. 1, p. 355)
The first is a theses, and the other two are primary sources. Epachamo (talk) 06:36, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
State of Deseret
[edit]I was doing some research and I have found a problem. So after the saints left Nauvoo in 1846 after a war that lasted from June 10, 1844 – September 16, 1846. This officially ended the Nauvoo Legion. The first saints then arrived in Utah later that year forming the State of Deseret. While this was happening the Nauvoo Legion was officially dissolved but continued to fight from 1845-1846, however, the Mormon Battalion containing veterans was formed in July 1846 before all the saints left Nauvoo. So do we create another article for the State of Deseret Milita? As far as I can from 1845 to 1850, there were like 3-5 militias called the Navuoo legion spread around the US.
