Also Known As

The article says, "(also known as ... U-Dubb)" Is there a reference for this? If not, I feel it should be removed. Wikipedia isn't urban dictionary. An alias should be in extremely common usage, or otherwise somehow official if it is to appear in an article. Christopher.secord (talk) 22:32, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

This is an article?

This article is painfully short. For a good template, see the Georgia Institute of Technology article. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 18:01, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

See also, the Florida International University page. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 03:49, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
If we're going to recommend university articles as examples, can we please stick with featured articles like Cornell University and Duke University? --ElKevbo 19:41, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I wrote the last paragraph in "History" by myself. Perhaps you could go through it and rewrite the rest? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 18:18, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

I apologize for that; I was looking for citations when I noticed the entire History section was just lifted off the UWF website, so I just indiscriminately removed the entire section without looking at all of it. I added it back under Historic Pensacola Village. Again, I apologize. Elcda0 00:45, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Us-fl-uwf.gif

Image:Us-fl-uwf.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The image File:Gsccolor.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Underwater Archaeology?

This article's 'Underwater Archaeology' section refers to the discovery of Tristan de Luna's ship as being "last summer" but gives no context as to what year that "last summer" was. If someone is able, the article should be edited to include the exact year of the Tristan de Luna discovery. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.31.169.26 (talk) 12:50, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

Background on Oliver Wendell Holmes

An unregistered editor has twice added material to this article about Oliver Wendell Holmes being a promoter of eugenics. The only mention of Holmes in this article is that this university's selected the university's symbol, the chambered nautilus, because of a poem written by Holmes. Given this very tenuous connection, it seems off-topic to mention anything whatsoever about Holmes except that he indeed wrote that poem. Of course, if there are further details that establish that the connection is deeper then we can and should revisit this. ElKevbo (talk) 17:16, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
