Independent institution or branch campus?

[edit]

@Mechanical Keyboarder: You have repeatedly edited this article to claim that the institution is now an independent institution instead of simply being a branch campus of the University of Washington. However, you have not provided any sources that substantiate that claim. In their reporting to the federal government, the institution is explicitly labeled "Tacoma Campus." You've also claimed that the institution is now separately accredited but the institution's own website explicitly says that it "is accredited as a unit of the University of Washington by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities."

In fairness, the situation is not entirely clear cut. Despite the "campus" name, it does report separately to the federal government and have its data in IPEDS as noted in the link above. It is separately included in some ranking systems (e.g., U.S. News & World Report) and has its own Carnegie classification. So what we need to do is clearly tell readers about the situation as it exists - the institution has some separate identity but remains closely connected to UW. In doing so, we need to be careful to not uncritically accept claims or language made by those who work for the institution e.g., if it's a university system then we should say that regardless of the subject's preferred language.
