Central Campus

Prior to the "University Park" name and perhaps afterwards, many Houstonians referred to the UH campus as "Central Campus" or "University of Houston-Central Campus". I recall that this name was published on class schedules and catalogs when I attended. Should we mention this in the "Campus" section? Postoak (talk) 23:27, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

I was referring to the former name in the "Campus" section. IMHO, there should be mention of the former "Central Campus" name along with "University Park" as a historical reference for readers who recall the earlier name. "Central Campus" isn't used any longer, but you will still find older references to it at uh.edu and google.com/scholar.google.com Postoak (talk) 04:57, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
I agree. —RJN (talk) 05:01, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
I added the former "Central Campus" designation to text. Please edit it as you see fit. —RJN (talk) 05:19, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Looks good, thanks. Postoak (talk) 05:23, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Whether the "flagship" status of a university can be presented as objective fact

There is currently an RfC on this question at Talk:University of Maine#Flagship RFC. Coppertwig (talk) 12:54, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Hand gesture

I removed the hand gesture trivia because it is irrelevant and unnecessary. Furthermore, it is unsourced. Postoak (talk) 06:12, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

I agree. This isn't appropriate for Wikipedia. Brian Reading (talk) 12:03, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
The shocker has its own Wikipedia entry. if you're interested in policing what's appropriate and inappropriate for the documentation of our cultural lexicon, maybe you should start with that entry. But as it's become a nationally controversial trend, I don't see how you can defend it as "inappropriate." In this case, the hand gesture is almost exactly the same. If your school's hand gesture was the middle finger, I think there'd be some mention of its similar appearance to the more common usage of said gesture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.249.226.23 (talk) 05:06, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
It's not the same hand sign, flat-out. The index and middle-fingers are specifically separate, which is not the same as the shocker. The UH Cougar Paw pre-dates the shocker sign, and if you're going to argue about it being similar to another hand sign, you can point to The Pitchfork if anything.
