What is meant by "private ownership?" Can't I have a slot machine in my bedroom for my own personal entertainment?

That is precisely what these laws are ment to prohibit/regulate, as the law does not want you to compete, even in your own home, with the profitable modern computer slots operated by private firms that pay heavy taxes for the privilege of operating them. There are legal slots in Alabama. I just lost some money yesterday, at VictoryLand in Shorter, Alabama - you can google it. Its just 15 min outside of Montgomery, the state capital. Its a huge place with thousands of slot machines and dog racing, but no cards or other casino games.

What does "Age of Machine" mean? Does that mean the machine can't be any older than that? Does it mean the regulation only applies to machines older than that? It's very ambiguious.

It's explained in the column. In some states the machine has to be 20 years or older. At any rate, it's indicated in the column what it means, and I don't know how you can be less ambiguous than "20 years or older".Rray 14:12, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

spam link?

[edit]

the BMI site listed here is pretty much for sales of arcade equipment, but the link on this page is actually kinda informative (although obviously not an official source of legal information) Should it stay or go? SpikeJones 00:02, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not spam as the article needs a reference like this (it could be seen as redundant to the first, but it is a neat table like the one here so easier to see without digging through the text of the laws). The problem is the first two links really should be called references, the third an external link, and the fourth either removed or also made a reference since it is redundant to the first two. I'll break the section into the standard structure now. 2005 01:59, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

............... The chart talks about legality by state, but although many states may have various bands on the slot machines, it is legal on the Tribal nation lands that are within the state. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JL Fenger (talkcontribs) 01:17, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
