Beret flashes in State Defense Forces

Outback the koala, Your addition of the state militia beret flash section is very intriguing and has got me researching to find good credible support information to back it up. From what I can gather, the only things I can find that I would consider credible evidence that we could use to cite our information are two newsletters, one from the California State Military Reserve [1] and one from the Georgia State Defense Force [2], dated 2011 and 2012 respectively, that show these state service members wearing berets with unique beret flashes. Additionally, the red style beret flash you depict only shows up as a Georgia militia beret flash on the research I have conducted thus far; I cannot find other state militia that state or show them wearing this red beret flash. In other words, we need credible information to cite as sources for this new section or it will need to be removed. Can you help find these sources? Thanks for your message. My understanding of that particular flash was that it was the standardized flash advocated by SGAUS to its members. As I am sure you have already found not all SDFs are SGAUS members and not all members have adopted this “standard flash”. I looked for a source to provide to you, but could not (though I am short on time to do so). [REDACTED] This was helpful to me. The flashes you have since added look wonderful. Outback the koala, The link you provided above looks like an email that was sent to someone and the route page is filled with malware so I have removed it for safety; in other words, it is not something we can use as a credible source of information. Also, I have looked into the naval militia, as you suggested, and the few that exist wear US Marine Corps style uniforms (no berets) [3]. I’m not aware of any naval militia wearing berets. Of the few extant NMs, they usually wear variations of US Navy uniforms (for militiamen that are non-military, or members of the Army, Air Force, Navy, or Cost Guard — or their reserve components), while militiamen that are Marines/Marine reservists usually wear USMC-style uniforms. Federal law requires that in order to receive certain funding, 75% of NM members must also be reserve members of the ‘naval services,’ I.e. the USN, USMC, or USCG. But I digress

As you pointed out, the beret is not part of USN or USMC uniforms. There’s obscure “beret” that was authorized for female sailors for years, but it looked nothing like modern US berets.

The only state I would think might have a beret is CA’s NM. But I have no evidence for this; A cursory Google search reveals nothing in regards to berets and NMs, anyways MWFwiki (talk) 04:53, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

At one point I had expanded this article to include various berets in the US military, including the female berets worn by the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines (ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=United_States_military_beret_flash&diff=1037673594&oldid=1037646851) but it was making the article too big and it was getting off the topic of beret flashes—as the British define them—so I reduced this article to just cover the flashes and their history. Some of the information I had on various berets I moved to some of the military beret articles but not all of it.

MFO

I've removed the examples of the Multinational Force and Observers. Though the U.S. Army contributes troops to the MFO, it is an independent international organization with its own beret and flash. Military personnel serving with the MFO wear their national military dress and national flags or crests to identify their country of origin, but all contingents wear with the MFO insignia to identify the wearer as a member of the force.
