Where's the verb ?

In the History section, we have the following sentence :

"To control big business, the New Deal policymakers federal and state regulation—controlling the rates and telephone services provided by AT&T, for example—and by building up countervailing power in the form of labor unions."

So let's take out the stuff between the em-dashes, as it is a parenthesis, a side-note, and we get :

"To control big business, the New Deal policymakers federal and state regulation and by building up countervailing power in the form of labor unions." —Jerome Potts (talk) 18:23, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

Okay, 'found it, the missing verb is "preferred", in "the New Deal policymakers preferred federal and state regulation ; the sentence was vandalised back on 9 Nov. 2015, where "preferred" was replaced by "pineapples", then on the 28 of that same month, the offending word was removed, leaving the sentence in that state. Interestingly, in May 2017 someone tagged the sentence with a "reference needed", but obviously failed to catch its flaw. —Jerome Potts (talk) 18:46, 20 August 2019 (UTC)

The sentence is still flawed, even with the addition of 'preferred', though :/. Particularly the latter part of it. I will dig a bit deeper into the history to see if there were any older mangling events... Firejuggler86 (talk) 09:56, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
