Chairman, 1999-2001?

[edit]

Thanks to the Congressional Bioguide, I was able to find all the comittee chairmen from 1967-1999. I could not, however, find the chair from 1999-2001 (106th Congress). I think it's Chuck Grassley, but he is only listed as being chair during the 105th (then again, John Breaux was chair during the 107th and it didn't list him either). Can anyone help with that one? I'd also like to thank UnitedStatesIndia, who has done a great job tracking the chairs since 2001.ModRocker86 19:10, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Chuck Grassley was chairmen until the end of the 106th Congress (January 2001). Larry Craig became chairman after that, but only served until June 6, 2001 which is when Democrats took the majority in the Senate. My source is S.Res. 7 adopted by the Senate January 3, 2001 (that and the fact that I worked for the Senate at the time).
  • 2001 was an odd year, since chairmanship of all committees switched twice in less than 6 months. Democrats chaired all committees from January 3 until noon January 20 (due to the 50-50 Senate and the Al Gore/Dick Cheney vice presidential tie breaker). Democrats again became chairmen of all committees when Jim Jeffords became an independent on June 6, 2001. So if we want to be technically accurate the list should really read Grassley, Breaux, Craig, Breaux.
