[edit]There are actually two papers here. The first one was founded in 1847. As far as I can tell from reading, it was confiscated in 1848.
It seems interesting to me that the second was founded by Arthur Griffith as he owned the The Nation, where John Mitchel had come from. -- Bernfarr
United Irishman was also the paper of Cumann na nGheadheal in the 1920s & 30s while the paper of the Fine Gael party became United Ireland
- The United Irishman was also the monthly paper of Sinn Féin, and then Official Sinn Féin. (added by 86.41.158.195 July 2008)
