Disambiguation first
[edit]Would anyone have any objection to making searches for "Union College" come directly to the disambiguation page and not any one college? With three Union Colleges and the added confusion of places with names like "Union University" and "Mount Union College" and "Columbia Union College," it just seems like it's not an easy conclusion that searches are best served by finding the Union College in New York first.
I'd like to know if anyone else has thoughts on this subject.

- Now that I've moved Union College of Lincoln to the more proper Union College (Nebraska), this could be easily and consistently done by moveing Union College to Union College (New York) (and then moving this page, Union College (disambiguation), to Union College with the help of an administrator). However, if the college in New York is by far the most famous and has the bulk of randomly created links to Union College, then it should stay put! - Yes, Scott, I agree that a disambiguation page would be best. Brianweedster (talk) 04:56, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- The only checks i've made are these: It
- is at least twice as large as any of its four contenders to be the primary topic for Union College,
- is about 20 times as large as the only one that is less than 80 years newer,
- has wider appeal and influence by reason of being free of religious & missionary roles, and
- is part of a relatively cosmopolitan metropolitan area (Schenectady/Albany/Troy) that includes RPI, SUNY/Albany, Russell Sage, & (its Union University partner Albany Medical College, plus innovative industrial labs including GE's R&D and the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, permitting it offer a much more forward-looking and diversified curriculum than its student-body size would otherwise imply.
- Without trying to reduce the comparison to numbers, do take note of the articles' respective "notable alumni" sections.
IMO, "equal" disambiguation would call for evidence of a lot of factors that could make the others compare to it in influence and importance.
And BTW, superficial tho it may sound, those factors probably have done a lot toward letting it build a campus that could get chosen for location shooting on a major mo-pic (of the '70s), The Way We Were.

I apologize for resurrecting an old discussion. I agree with making the Union College page point to the disambiguation. I'm not sure what protocol is for that, however. WikiManOne (talk) 22:07, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
In the Philippines
[edit]There are a number of institutions in the Philippines that are also "union colleges" apart from the one in Laguna: La Union College of Nursing (San Fernando City, La Union); La Union College of Science and Technology (Naguilian, La Union); and Union Christian College (City of San Fernando, La Union). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.104.97.138 (talk) 11:22, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
