The result of the proposal was PAGE MOVED per discussion below. -GTBacchus(talk) 23:33, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Wilma Blasini Perez → Uma Blasini — As per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names), I request that page be moved to Uma Blasini, as Uma Blasini is the name most commonly used for this person (her professional and stage name and the name she used in the pageant). I belive that this page move would clear up edit wars regarding this subject (see Zuleyka Rivera) -- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 01:52, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

BOTH times she compited at the Miss Puerto Rico Universe she did so under the name of UMA. Doing a simple google search documents this. BOTH times, as Miss San Juan in 2005 and as Miss Guayanilla in 2007 she compited under the name Uma. When she won she was immediately introduced as Uma and the cover the three major Puertorican newspapers listed her name as UMA. To dissipate any doubts, Miss PR director, Magaly Febles. formally annouced that Uma will participate at the Miss Universe under that name.
It is well documented that BOTH TIMES Uma participated in the Miss Puerto Rico Universe, she did so under the name of UMA. Like I previously mentioned, if wikipedia needs to refer to Uma by her birthname that is not Wilma, it would be Wilmadilis. If wikipedia needs to refer to Uma by the name that she's mostly known at that is definitely and very easy to document, UMA.

I disagree with the move. Major Puerto Rican periodicals such as Vea, Imagen, and El Nuevo Dia all list her name as Wilma. Any alias should be added to her article, however the name should stay as is. I will provide links to articles validating my statements shortly.--XLR8TION 15:57, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
Here are some articles that utilize her real name when winning the contest:

Three of those "articles" that you cite are from sources specialized in covering sports such as volleyball and it is clear that that's how she was known as a professional volleybal player. Two of those "articles" are simply messages posted at the Univision.com message board page. All of the following articles (being the first one an article published TODAY at the Vocero newspaper) list her as Uma. The second article contains the video of her crowning and you can clearly see that they called her UMA BLASINI:
- Article from the Puerto Rico's newspaper El Vocero published TODAY and referring to her as UMA
- Video of her crowning in which she is presented as UMA BLASINI
- Article
- Arcticle
- Article

- Article
- Article from India referring to her as UMA
- Article from Pakistan referring to her a UMA
- Article
- Article from Venezuela referring to her as UMA
- Article from the Philipines referring to her as UMA
- Article from Spain referring to her as UMA

I have requested mediation on this matter, therefore no articles nor links should reflect any proposed changes and they should remain as they are posted on Wikipedia --> Wilma Blasini Perez. No vota has taken place and therefore parties should not make false statements saying that a vote has taken when one hasn't. --XLR8TION 23:15, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
I read your request for mediation and I really don't understand why you insist in preseting the facts in sush a misleading way. Could you please cite one instance which have made it seem like we have claimed ownership of the article? The fact that a wikipedia articles presents her name as Wilma does't not make it definitive as to meaning that no changes should be implemented to it, specially when the name contained in the article does not follow Wikipedia's naming convention guidelines. What this all comes down to is that the article WRONGLY states that her name is Wilma Blasini and your only basis to continue editing the article is that the article has her listed as Wilma. A mistake cannot be the basis for same mistake to continue being made.
Wikipedia should refer to a person using the MOST COMMON name of that person. If the rationales of this is to maximize the likelihood of Wikipedia being listed in external seach engines and therefore atracting more people to Wikipedia, I don't understand why there would be any doubt that Wikipedia should list this person as UMA BLASINI since that is the name that she is CLEARLY know for. A simple look at the discussion of Zuleyka Rivera and Uma Blasini | will show the multiple sources proving that this person is mostly know as Uma.208.59.119.30 00:29, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Mediation Request
[edit]I just noticed that XLR8TION has filed a mediation request on this subject at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation#Wilma Blasini Perez. I just want to say that I think that this is ridiculous at the present time with the move request in process and editorial consensus 3-1 in favour of the move.
Further the editor contends that "Aliases for beauty queens such as one stated for Marisol Malaret and Barbara Palacios have never affected the article's titling, therefore same should be applied to this article as well." This actually supports the contention that the article should be renamed "Uma Blasini". Palacios's real name is "Barbara Pérez Hernández" but the article is titled "Bárbara Palacios" because that is the name she most commonly goes by. Similiarly in this case, although Perez' first name is "Wilmadilis Blasini Pérez", she most is most commonly known as "Uma Blasini" and thus that is what the article should be titled. -- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 00:38, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Google News Archive search looks pretty conclusive:
[edit]- Google news archive search for "Wilma Blasini" - 4 hits
- Search for "Uma Blasini" - 29 main hits and many, many more subhits.
I think this fairly conclusively supports the move request. -- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 00:50, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
