Explanation of optical properties

[edit]

The text (2013-09-01) "The fiber-optic effect is the result of the polarization of light into slow and fast rays within each fiber, the internal reflection of the slow ray and the refraction of the fast ray into the slow ray of an adjacent fiber." does not seem to be referenced, unless the citation to "The Book of Stones: Who They Are and What They Teach" is also meant to cover this statement.

A quick Google for a fragment of this text reveals only copies of the WP text.

I added "Citation needed. See Talk page."

I have not yet read what is apparently the first explanation of the optical properties: "Fibre Optical Properties of Ulexite" E. J. Weichel-Moore & R. J. Potter Nature 200, 1163 - 1165 (21 December 1963); http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v200/n4912/abs/2001163b0.html This is cited by a later paper which does not seem to have been superceded, which I added as an External Reference:

Ulexite, NaCaB5O6(OH)6.5H2O: structure refinement, polyanion configuration, hydrogen bonding, and fiber optics Subrata Ghose, Che'ng Wan and Joan R. Clark American Mineralogist, 1978 Vol 63 161-171 http://www.minsocam.org/ammin/AM63/AM63_160.pdf

This paper makes no mention of polarization.Robin Whittle (talk) 02:39, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the Book of Stones from use as a reference, simply not a WP:RS. Vsmith (talk) 03:16, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I found a link to what may be the source lacking a full citation "According to Baur et al. (1957)[full citation needed]," an American Mineralogist article at http://www.minsocam.org/msa/collectors_corner/arc/ulexitefiberoptic.htm. Diaskeuast60 (talk) 04:39, 25 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Image Caption problems

[edit]

Image caption reads like an ad and contains a link to a mineral specimen sellers website. I'd be surprised if this is not breaching Wikipedia's policy on advertizing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7C:64A5:EF00:A54A:6CCB:5AEC:9842 (talk) 17:32, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
