Name
[edit]Named it Marine Corps instead of Naval Infantry because thats how Ministry of Defense lists it in the English section of their website. http://www.mil.gov.ua/index.php?lang=en&part=structure&sub=navy Ceriy 01:08, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Can this be called a Corps? Морська піхота України складає один батальйон у складі окремої бригади берегової оборони Військово-морських Сил України This is one battalion which is a part of coastal defense brigade Naval Forces of Ukraine UeArtemis (talk) 13:30, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, since it is a separate branch of navy, that what corps means in this case, not a size of a unit. "Marine Corps, being highly mobile armed branch, is used as a component part of amphibious, airborne and amphibious-airborne operations, alone or in accordance with formations and units of the Army in order to capture parts of the seashore, islands, ports, fleet bases, coast airfields and other coast objects of the enemy. It can also be used to defend naval bases, vital areas of the shore, separate islands and coast objects, security of hostile areas." Ceriy (talk) 17:08, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
- The term used and title should be "Naval Infantry" because that is what the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Government call it in their own language. Choosing to call it the "Marine Corps" in an English language website is clearly an attempt at somewhat equating it with the U.S. Marine Corps - they even directly copied the USMC Motto, choosing Ukrainian and NOT the U.S. usage Latin. Wikipedia should attempt to be true to original data and not become party to political/military advertising "spin".Moryak (talk) 21:08, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
Dnieper Campaign
[edit]Im wondering as to whether something related to the engagement mentioned above should be added? From what I know it would seem the Ukrainian Marine Corps are playing an important role in that theatre. Jamham420 (talk) 03:24, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
