Restructuring proposal
[edit]First, let me say that I am currently interested in Yule only in so far that he is deemed to be significant for his 1927 analysis of the sun-spot cycle.
Specifically:
"This was perhaps the first time that a model with internal degrees of freedom (what we would now call a linear autoregressive model) was inferred from measurements of an external observable (the sunspot series)." Gerschenfeld 1999, p.204
I have come here from the Wikipedia article on time series which I am trying to reorganize.
I note that there are two main sections to the biography of Yule with significant overlap in detail. I propose to make some suggestions here as to how to reorganize according to the WikiProject Biography. --Михал Орела (talk) 17:19, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
New sections on Education, Writings, Assessment
[edit]Clearly text must be re-arranged and merged appropriately. The section label "Biography" will be removed. In its place I propose three new sections: one covering his education, a second covering his writings and a third section on assessment of his contribution to Statistics. I will do this immediately.--Михал Орела (talk) 18:31, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
The following text has been deleted from the main page:
"A great influence in his academic life was the statistician Karl Pearson, who lured him back to London[citation needed]."
Once the citation issue for the claim of being "lured" by Pearson has been resolved, then it can be re-inserted into the article.
The Education section has been renamed in order to accommodate the teaching practice of Yule.--Михал Орела (talk) 19:02, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Notes and references
[edit]I have added appropriate sections for (foot)notes and references in order to facilitate citations. There is just one book used for this purpose: that of Frank Yates, 1952. I do not know yet, the title, publisher and so on. This is the next major task to be done. --Михал Орела (talk) 19:22, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
