Pirate to Privateer
[edit]Privateers are commissioned in times of war by a legitimate government to interrupt trade and commerce of their enemy and are thus not acting against any rules of war so long as they follow guidelines whilst seizing ships. Pirates are not commissioned by any nation and are thus committing international crimes by interrupting commerce for no belligerents. Labeling the Confederate ship a pirate could possible be seen as a bias.DaltonCastle (talk) 06:35, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
