The Thrush left San Diego the day after the signing of the treaty with Japan with a destination of Hawaii. Just out of Boot Camp at Great Lakes, the Thrush was my first ship. That first day at sea, although VERY seasick, I watched as depth charges were released, just in case the Japanese submarines did not get the message about the end of the war.
The Thrush returned to the Long Beach area of California and from there through the Panama canal and to Boston where she was decommissioned.68.190.163.220 (talk) 03:17, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
