[edit]There's some confusion about exactly how many of these there are. Our article on Treaties of Velasco indicates that the frigate USS Pioneer carried General Santa Anna to Veracruz in 1837. Additionally, site lists a USS Pioneer participating in the battle of New Berne in 1862. Since the earlier Pioneer would be at least 25 years old at that point, it's very possible they are two different ships. So there might be a total of at least four.
- The USN history site lists the files of Pioneer, a bark, and a CSN submarine, Pioneer as well at [1]. I suspect that the ship at New Berne was the submarine, captured and renamed. And the frigate, Pioneer, was really a bark. Appropriate changes made. Jinian 16:29, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
