Not sure Laird Brothers shipyard is in Scotland? It is in Birkenhead in Wirral next to Liverpool. Laird launched a vessel called Norseman 8 March 1890, designed by St Clare John Byrne, 152 ft X 23 ft 327 tons. It was for S R Platt who already had a yacht called Norseman. He had a bigger Norseman built later in the decade. S R Platt opened the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894 in his yacht Norseman being the first vessel through after Queen Victoria had opened it. http://www.canalarchive.org.uk/stories/pages.php?enum=TE127&pnum=1&maxp=2
