Royalty Aboard: On March 1973, a Maharlika and Sulu Nobility reported aboard USS Mahan DLG-11. Seaman Sharif Carpenter Arpa-v fresh from BootCamp was in a new world as compared to have been an islander in the southern Philippines. A son of A U.S. Army Captain of WW-II, Sn Arpa's imspiration was his father. The second that most inspired Him to be a career minded Sailor was the USS Mahan's Skipper, Ship's Captain CDR. Steele. Looking on the latter as his positive role model. After the Decommissioning of the Mahan, Sn Arpa took his first furlough or leave back to the Philippines. Unknowingly that when he reports to his next duty station, he would be aboard ships in Haiphong Harbor as Mount 51 Gunner in the Vietnam War. He had served later on eight other ships in his career and three land bases. To my Captain, CDR. Steele, my very best to you Sir and thanks for having me join you over a cup of coffee. God Bless. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.207.178.121 (talk) 09:42, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

[edit]DDG 42 was one of several late 80's USN ships featured in James Cameron's "the Abyss" film. Her hull number is featured quite prominently near the end of the movie, when it is seen "aground" on the NTI habitat's deck. 2603:800C:2101:17F0:911B:F786:4C5F:B524 (talk) 07:22, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
