Wreck location

Where's the wreck? Can it be scuba dived? A casual Google search found obituaries of one researcher who determined that some debris found on Roncador Reef was indeed from the Kearsarge; and there's one abandoned Geocities site of a wreck company that casually mentioned that the wreck was known and had been "well worked", but I don't see any reference to diving this wreck anywhere else. Guns

I've been working on the Joachim Pease article who was a loader on the number 2 gun on the USS Kearsarge (though his Medal of Honor citation has him on the number 1 gun). I'm assuming these are the two 11-inch Dahlgren smoothbore cannons on board. I've just uploaded a picture of those two guns with crew circa 1864 and placed it in that article. Ideally for the caption I would like to indicate which gun is number 2; does anyone know? Meaning?

Kearsarge was the only ship of the United States Navy named for Mount Kearsarge in New Hampshire. Subsequent ships were later named Kearsarge in honor of the ship.

Do you mean it was the first ship named Kearsarge? Otherwise the statement appears to be contradictory. Valetude (talk) 17:57, 4 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
