Captain Howard D. Bode

Captain Howard D. Bode deserves his own Wikipedia page since he was so important in the Battle of Savo Island. Ultimately he killed himself when he learned that the board of inquiry was going to hold him liable for the defeat at Savo Island.

For more than four years now, this article has contained the following --" conducted gunnery exercises preliminary to the annual fleet problem off the California coast." (first sentence, third par). What is the "annual fleet problem"? Kaiwhakahaere (talk) 20:42, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's the same as saying "the annual fleet training exercise", not the "traditional" meaning of "problem" (i.e., every year at about the same time, the fleet couldn't manage to raise steam in their boilers for some unknown reason :) ).
