  • Some repetition here: "The ship was briefly commissioned in 1871 before a much longer commission began in 1874–75."
    • Rephrased.
  • "The ship was renamed Ajax on 15 June 1869.[7]" -- I'm not sure what the style is on renamed ships, but you've been calling her Ajax the entire article, so it's sort of strange to see this after so many mentions.
    • This is a bit of a conundrum. She never served under her original name; all of her commissioned time was as Ajax. I can refer to her using her original name in the description and everything that happened before she was renamed using her original name, and then as Ajax for everything afterward, if you think that will be less confusing.
  • For that matter, you never reference the name "Manayuk," which needs to be cited to a source. Also, what is the namesake?
    • Done.
  • "She was recommissioned for local defense duties on 9 July 1898 during the Spanish-American War in response to political pressure." -- Kind of a vague sentence. Pressure from who? and for what?
    • Clarified.
  • "The ship was intended for service at Baltimore, but she was decommissioned on 1 September 1898 before the necessary refit had been completed." -- Any idea why? Was it too expensive to refit her?
    • Not enough info; probably just too time consuming, but don't know for sure.
  • Two duplicate links found. At least one disabig link was also found, maybe two, I can't tell.
  • The external links all seem to be working fine.
  • The image is properly licensed, and I see no issues with article stability or neutrality.
Placing the article on hold to await improvements. —Ed!(talk) 18:23, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
