Lead flagged for puff
[edit]The entire lead would benefit from a rework. Here's something I cobbled together that might get the next editor started:
The School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California, founded in 1975, was the first professional school of gerontology established in the United States, and remains one of the oldest and largest gerontology schools in the world.

I'm personally reluctant to capitalize disciplines such as gerontology except in the most formal invocations; beyond that, it just adds pretense and visual clutter. — MaxEnt 14:49, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
