North-south?

Why is US 6 designated as north-south? Is it because of the direction of the route, or is it how the way it is signed? AL2TB Gab or Tab 21:28, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When it was extended to Long Beach, California decided to mark it north-south. That has remained after the 1964 truncation, though at least one recent sign does say east: [1] Caltrans still calls it north-south: [2] --NE2 16:56, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
