Mileage Changes
[edit]I am slowly going through using the Milepoint Maps (where I can) to get accurate milepoints for intersections and total length. I am using the official WV Department of Transportation Milepoint Maps at https://transportation.wv.gov/IT/GIS/MAPS/Pages/default.aspx
The total length of the road in West Virginia is not 248 miles as previously indicated with no source cited. If you take the county maps one by one, you get the following: 222.66 miles (Jackson 24.76; Roane 20.44; Calhoun 14.86; Gilmer 26.98; Lewis 27.04; Upshur 15.40; Barbour 4.43; Randolph 37.15; Pendleton 51.60); As a check, I verified there are no missing counties, as it matches a manual review of the road itself on maps, and the county list already present in this article. Secondarily, forcing Google Maps to go from the Ravenswood Bridge across only US 33 to the Virginia line results in 222 miles. I do not know where the 248 number came from -- I suspect it might be the Google Maps "fastest" routing from end-to-end -- but that involves not US 33 between Ripley and Weston, but I-77 and I-79.
I am new at editing Wikipedia, and trying carefully to follow best practices, so feel free to suggest otherwise. Stateroute405 (talk) 18:52, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
