out-of-character actor image

Because using out-of-character actor photos as illustrations of characters makes no sense, I have removed the OOC actor photo. Copyright-free images of either a drawing/illustration of the character or of the actor in character - if they can be found/acquired - would be very welcome additions to the article.--TyrS 06:47, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

RfC on Oathkeeper

There's an RS-related RfC on Oathkeeper. Participation and fresh voices would be welcome. The matter concerns a single-line reference to the chapters upon which the episode was based. Darkfrog24 (talk) 21:38, 21 August 2014 (UTC)

Do we really need plot summaries for both the television and the novels?

For the most part, the TV show follows Tyrion's plot fairly precisely. Where they deviate is usually not notable as the character is basically the same.

Do we really need two plot summaries? Eric the fever (talk) 04:33, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Are there two separate summaries here? The TV series-centric section touches on plot points mentioned in related articles or to give context, but I wouldn't call it a summary.— TAnthonyTalk 15:22, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Initial comments

  • Too many citations in the lead that are against WP:LEADCITE. It is encouraged to only cite controversial information, so cutting down on some citations in the lead wouldn't hurt  FixedTAnthonyTalk 17:34, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
  • The lead is also missing on some key points that would make it summarize the article better. The lead does not mention the character's development/creation and his plot is also looking thin  Fixed Beefed up the lead.— TAnthonyTalk 19:30, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Family tree of House Lannister was an empty section, so I was bold and erased it, I hope nobody minds  FixedTAnthonyTalk 17:34, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
  • "Dana Jennings of The New York Times calls him "a bitter but brilliant dwarf whose humor, swagger and utter humanity make him the (often drunken) star of the series." - shouldn't this part be in the recognition and awards section? It sounds a lot like a critics reception to me  Fixed Reworked that section.— TAnthonyTalk 06:14, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Is the Merchandising section significant enough to be here? In its current form it is just a list and contains no prose?  Fixed Added a better intro, kept embedded list but citations are all reviews and not retail so there's notability IMO.— TAnthonyTalk 06:14, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
  • "even before, in season 2" - Season should be capitalized  FixedTAnthonyTalk 17:34, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, I will address the issues you mention and see what you think. I thought the Dana Jennings quote was a good introduction/summary of the character and his popularity for that section but I agree with your instincts, I'll try to use it a little differently there and move the more complimentary bits to the recog section. As far as the merchandising, it seems as though this character has more than most others in the series as a direct reflection of his popularity, but I don't know that there's a source that will back me up on that. I did toy with the idea of putting it in prose but at this point it would be just as flat as a list, and lists are acceptable within articles, albeit not preferred. I'll take a look at the citations in that area and see what I can do. Also, I hadn't noticed that someone had messed with the family tree template so it was displaying at the bottom of the article and disrupting the nav template. I've fixed it, and restored it to this article, but do you think this is the best way to display it? Thanks again.— TAnthonyTalk 18:27, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

On hold

I like this article, it already passes the "broad in coverage" criteria and is looking pretty comprehensive as it is. The only problem standing in its way are some organisation issues along with some prose issues, but other than that it is pretty solid. I'll leave this on hold for seven days. Thanks! OK, I tried to address these issues, let me know what you think.— TAnthonyTalk 04:54, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Close - promoted

Thank you for your changes to the article, it now meets the GA criteria. The lead has been expanded and now summarizes the article, with the body being comprehensive and broad. Well done Jaguar 20:07, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Tyrion's former wife

I found something in this article and the List of A Song of Ice and Fire characters article perplexing. I started a discussion on that article's talk page. Nightscream (talk) 00:23, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

Tyrion's name

In a blinkbox books interview, Martin said that he researched into medieval 'English' names for inspiration.. however due to England's upper-hand in representation of the UK, 'England' can mean; Wales, Northern Ireland & Scotland. and the closest name to tyrion in all those countries is Tirion, which is a Welsh given name. I tried to include 'Tirion' in the description, but two people removed it.. and because I don't have enough editorial experience, I cannot argue with them, which is why I'm asking if anyone else could verify and edit 'Tirion' into the article please? I don't want to get banned for disputing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hogyncymru (talkcontribs) 03:17, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for starting this discussion. I'm one of those who removed your addition here, and I've just watched the interview again so I can better explain why. Basically, Martin says he researched medieval names, and though he mentions things like changing Edward to Eddard, he never mentions Tyrion. He also doesn't make any blanket statements suggesting that most or many of the characters in this series were named based on this particular research. It is the very definition of what we call original research for you to take what he did say and interpret/assume that his research applies to an unmentioned character, research names that you believe fit the bill, and then present such a name as Martin's inspiration. Yes, it's entirely possible and maybe even likely that Martin added a Y to Tirion, but no actual sources seem to exist to allow us to assert that per our policies.— TAnthonyTalk 04:14, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
I've removed a similar passage from Daenerys Targaryen for the same reason.— TAnthonyTalk 20:28, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
