I will start by Friday. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 01:40, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • The precursor disturbance that led to Ruby was first identified on August 29 over the Philippine Sea, and this system organised into a tropical cyclone by September 1. → The precursor disturbance to Ruby was...
Done. @Destroyeraa: Is there more? SMB99thx my edits 22:45, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SMB99thx: I have a paper I need to do over the weekend and through Tuesday for World History (the paper's about geography for World History class). Thus, I'm sorry but I have to push this back further. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 02:20, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have some college work, too. SMB99thx my edits 02:23, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do the lede section:

  • with that intensityat peak intensity
 Done SMB99thx my edits 03:01, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • near Hong Kong and Macau - From what I know, there is a big estuary between the two cities. Closer to which one?
Done. I choose Hong Kong, because it appears that the most of this article and impacts is about Hong Kong. SMB99thx my edits 03:01, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ruby was one of the strongest typhoons in Hong Kong's historyRuby was one of the strongest typhoons to hit Hong Kong in the city's history.

  • was the fastest gustwas the strongest gust

  • A total of 38 fatalities were attributed to Ruby, though another 14 people remained unaccounted for. This sounds like a death toll for the whole storm. Put A total of 38 fatalities were attributed to Ruby in Hong Kong, though another 14 people remained unaccounted for.

  • Also, put A total of 38 fatalities were attributed to Ruby in Hong Kong, though another 14 people remained unaccounted for. after Among locales in Hong Kong, Tai Po was most seriously affected. for consistency.
 Done SMB99thx my edits 03:01, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Philippine impacts?
Done. It appears that there is no Philippines impacts on the article, and I have also checked season article and found nothing about Philippine impacts. So I decided to put that there are no recorded Philippines impacts caused by Ruby. SMB99thx my edits 03:31, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • The MH jumps straight into Ruby becoming a TS. This differs from the track map, which shows it being a TD for 12 hours.

Destroyeraa Are you going to continue this? SMB99thx my edits! 13:56, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@SMB99thx: Sorry...got carried away.~ Destroyer🌀🌀 19:32, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Aircraft reconnaissance estimated one-minute maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h (65 mph) on their first intercept of the system on September 1. We usually put what the storm does, not what the aircraft found unless it's a huge jump (ex. Epsilon 2020). Does this data support the STS status? If it does, make sure to put it.
    • The difficulty with talking about storms in this era is that there really isn't a definitive "true" intensity. Severe tropical storm status is a classification based on ten-minute, rather than one-minute, sustained winds, so I'm not sure that there's is much that can be said here without flirting with original research and synthesis. —TheAustinMan(TalkEdits) 19:48, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Tracking data from the JTWC and HKO indicate Ruby became a typhoon on September 2. Remove "Tracking data"; at what time did it become a typhoon?
  • Ruby passed north of Luzon and across the Babuyan Islands as a typhoon on September 3; one-minute sustained winds were estimated to be 140 km/h (85 mph) by the JTWC and ten-minute sustained winds were estimated to be 120 km/h (75 mph) at the time of this passage.Ruby passed north of Luzon and across the Babuyan Islands as a typhoon on September 3 with one-minute sustained winds estimated at 140 km/h (85 mph) by the JTWC and ten-minute sustained winds at 120 km/h (75 mph). Also, I don't know if by the JTWC needs to be included.
    • Made the sentence change as indicated. As I noted earlier, it's a bit tricky talking about windspeeds for storms around this time because the RSMC (JMA) did not provide what would otherwise be an authoritative tabulation for wind data for this era. Thus it seems in-line attribution of these estimates as frequently as possible would bring light to the fact that none of these datasets should be interpreted as authoritative. —TheAustinMan(TalkEdits) 19:48, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • Ah, I understand.
  • Add a comma after China Meteorological Administration (CMA)
  • On September 4, Ruby turned towards the northwest after reaching a position 200 km (125 mi) northwest of Luzon. Weird wording. →On September 4, Ruby turned towards the northwest while 200 km (125 mi) northwest of Luzon.
  • Ruby made landfall near Hong Kong and Macau Landfall is already linked in the lead section. Also, near Hong Kong and Macau - I made a tidbit about this before. Closer to which? :)
  • with this intensity → at peak intensity

Preparations and Impact

[edit]
  • Undo Between September 3 and when, put comma.. Poor grammar.
 Done. SMB99thx my edits! 02:17, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Royal Observatory Hong Kong declared tropical cyclone signal no. 1 at 22:15 UTC on September 3, when Ruby was centered roughly 595 km (370 mi) east of Hong Kong. The Royal Observatory escalated these warnings as Ruby approached, with signal no. 3 issued at 18:35 UTC that day and later typhoon signal no. 10 at 02:40 UTC on September 5 - some problems. The Royal Observatory escalated these warnings as Ruby approached, with signal no. 3 issued at 18:35 UTC that day. Which day? September 3, 4, or 5? Also, remove "typhoon" from "typhoon signal no. 10"
 Done. Signal No. 3 is from September 4. SMB99thx my edits! 02:37, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • As the storm passed, the signal severity decreased until the final signal was lifted at 04:50 UTC on September 5 after over 42 hours of active warnings. "until"→"and"
 Done SMB99thx my edits! 02:37, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • and the first of two in 1964. I'm curious, which other one?
Linked Typhoon Dot (1964) and changed it into the first of two warnings.  Done SMB99thx my edits! 02:37, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • It was the most severe storm to hit Hong Kong since Typhoon Wanda in 1962. Unnecessary record. Two years isn't a lot of time.

 Done SMB99thx my edits! 02:37, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The typhoon destroyed or damaged 314 fishing vessels and 20 ships capable of oceanic travel throughout the Hong Kong area. Delete "capable of oceanic travel" as it is rather obvious that the ships were not damaged beforehand and could travel. It also makes the sentence rather confusing, as "capable of oceanic travel throughout the Hong Kong area" tells readers that the ships were capable of travelling throughout Hong Kong.
 Done
  • village homes and temporary shelters. What are "village homes"?
Village homes are Village houses.  Done SMB99thx my edits! 02:37, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Torch relay leads to disambiguation article, but otherwise I have linked 1964 Summer Olympics, so it's 1964 Summer Olympics torch relay (links to List of Olympic torch relays).  Done. @Destroyeraa: It's all done. SMB99thx my edits! 02:37, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
