2006/07 Stats

- The official 2006/07 usage figures for this station (and Upper Tyndrum) are highly suspect. I have not looked deeply into how the figures were calculated, but being a regular traveller on the Oban line, I am in no doubt that they do not reflect the reality in this particular case. The previous years' statistics are more believable. I remember after these figures were released seeing a letter in The Oban Times from a Tyndrum resident who made a point of visiting Tyndrum Lower station whenever a train was due, to see for himself how many passengers got on or off. He had counted more than 17 within about two days.–Signalhead < T > 14:15, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
- The root of the problem is that these are actually "ticket sales allocated to these stations" and in 2006/7 it was next to impossible to get a ticket that would be allocated to Tyndrum Lower.
- The main article explaining the situation is at Station group, but basically a lot of settlements with more than one station have tickets sold that can be used for any station there. However the way ticket sales for station groups gets allocated is fairly arbitrary and can create wild distortions:
- 1). Tickets sold at the station itself - that station.
- 2). Tickets sold at an outside station on a direct line to only one station in the group - that station.
- 3). Everything else - the designated "main station" for the group.
- I assume from the low figures that neither Tyndrum station (or for that matter many others on the line) has ticket sales on site and that because they're served by what starts as the same train then all on board sales are allocated to only one station. As a result bar a few that slip through (possibly people asking for the station specifically on some obscure arrangement that gets allocated directly) virtually all the tickets will go to a single station.
