Contested deletion
[edit]This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because...Mr Mitchell is an active and important bassist currently living and active - he plays in the world renowned Sun Ra Akestra - why would this page be deleted? --Nycjazzfan (talk) 22:43, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- That doesn't seem to be a particularly unique credential, to quote the Sun Ra page "Certainly dozens of musicians—perhaps hundreds—passed through Sun Ra's bands over the years." In my opinion, this doesn't serve as a claim of any unique importance for the subject of the article. Ducknish (talk) 22:47, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
YOu make it sound like there isnt any other information on the page - this is untrue - there are links to discographies entried with other well known artists - and Tyler is a leader in his own right earning accolades from Downbeat no less from his own CD - plus he is very active in other groups in NYC - Ive done everything I can within reason today to add and improve the page - sorry i have other things to do in my life and cant sit infront of my computer for 8 hrs so that you dont delete this page - you arent even reading the article in question or looking at other aspects of Mr Mitchell's well respected career - he has recorded CDs at the Village Vanguard. You could offer some critques or helps as to other references = it would be appreciated as to improve this page.Nycjazzfan (talk) 03:32, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
Mr Mitchell has recorded as a leader for the Smalls Live Record label - that is an important and critically acclaimed label in NY (According to this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Music/Notability_and_Music_Guidelines = this should be sufficent for inclusion). He has been reviewed in Downbeat (the leading jazz publication on the planet) and had interviews in AllAboutJazz a leading jazz portal. I will add in more links but you keep slating it for deletion without recognizing or considering the updated info I am trying to add and its relevance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nycjazzfan (talk • contribs) 02:19, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
I have tried to read the guidelines. This says:
General notability guideline Shortcuts: WP:GNG WP:SIGCOV If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list.
In my opinion, A review in Downbeat magazine for Mr Mitchell's own CD (an editor's pick no less) would be "significant coverage" "in (a) reliable sources" plus articles and interviews in AllAboutJazz (as referenced) Nycjazzfan (talk) 02:31, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
I have added a discography to accompany the article content and added citations of Grammy Award nomination recognition of Mr Mitchells playing Nycjazzfan (talk) 03:32, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
