Difference between "V" and "Vt"?
[edit]Is there a difference? Please clarify or change. 217.237.54.216 (talk) 08:44, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Only 5000 visible stars?
[edit]"...of the brightest stars in the Milky Way, of which about 5000 are visible to the naked eye."
According to the entry about the Yale Bright Star Catalog, the number of visible stars is over 9000 ((enter DBZ joke here)). I'm guessing that the number cited here (5000) is either a typo or the number of stars visible from any one location (since we see only roughly half the sky at any given time). I'll go ahead and change it. Crusoe704 (talk) 16:19, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
- The number in question varies considerably depending on sky brightness, the observer, etc., and the Yale catalog is not an appropriate source for this. This article is not the place to discuss this complicated topic, so I've take it out. See the section Limiting_magnitude#Naked-eye_visibility for a more complete explanation.
