Name

[edit]

Where does the name Twizell come from? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.91.9 (talk) 11:24, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

[edit]

OS maps show the castle, bridge, etc., spelled as twizel (only one L) ... quota (talk) 08:25, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But English Heritage spell it with two... [1] A brief trawl of web sources suggests that neither spelling is "correct", and that both are acceptable. Thanks, Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 13:46, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As with many castle names, they can be spelt in a variety of ways. The Gatehouse Gazetteer records Twyzell, Twysill, Twizel, and Twisle. None of them are 'wrong' as such. Twizel Castle is a redirect to this article, so I think that's ok, and I've added a note to the opening sentence explaining the redirect. Thanks for pointing this out Quota.
