Why a separate article?

[edit]

In case anyone is wondering why we have a separate article for "turrid" and "Turridae", let me explain. This is because the family Turridae used to be really enormous, but it was discovered to be polyphyletic. A number of other families were established, which are monophyletic and now Turridae is a relatively small family. However the informal term "turrid" is still used for all those families so it was thought to be best to have an article on the popular sense of the word.
