Ottoman railways
I have redirected Ottoman railways to this page. We would in fact need a separate article for the railroad network of the Ottoman Empire -- Petri Krohn 01:01, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- That redirect has been changed - since the article is now about TCDD which make a historical mismatch on the redirect/Shortfatlad (talk) 19:22, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Suggested move
I suggest we move this page to Turkish State Railways, as this is the official English name, whereas the currently used is the literal translation. ]See http://www.tcdd.gov.tr/tcdding/index.htm] . Bertilvidet 22:16, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Tcdd logo.jpg
Image:Tcdd logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:11, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Copyright issues
There are copyright issues on two sections in the article, also found in History of rail transport in Turkey
Specifically the history, and "track added before the republic of turkey" sections . see History (turkish) tcdd.gov.tr also History (english version) tcdd.gov.tr and "railways lines before and after the republic" tcdd.goc.tr
- Wikipedia:Copyright_problems/2009_November_21 is of relevent to the text giving historical information, which is awaiting feedback.
It looks like the sections can't be kept as they are, and will probably need to be rewritten (as an aside are there any other good sources for this type of information).
- Additionally does anyone have any suggestions for how the historical information should be dealt with in terms of split between History of rail transport in Turkey and other articles, or other suggestions?Shortfatlad (talk) 18:21, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
History section
I have removed this section (link: for use if section is copyright "ok") , as it is duplicated at History of rail transport in Turkey and currently requiring attention for a possible copyright infringement. (Rather than list the same thing twice)
- Please act on the notice on that page if you have evidence either way about the copyright issue. Thanks.87.102.78.86 (talk) 21:22, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
- As for the table of railway openings, probably copied from this page: although I didn't find it much use here, I have some difficulty seeing the copyright issue with a table stating bare facts. Classical geographer (talk) 12:26, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- I see your point in that the data is not copyrighted, but the presentation was identical (as I remember). It would require someone more expert than me to give an proper answer. I notice that User:Moonriddengirl gives copyright advice on their talkpage, as probably do other members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Copyright Cleanup if needed. I can ask there if needed. (A quick search reveals that tables can be copyrighted - such as when author publishes a set of tables as the main work they can claim copyright on it to prevent others profiting from their work - however that is only vaguely related here)
- Anyway I have attempted to convert the table (at least using it as a reference) into textual information at History of rail transport in Turkey. Although it is a very stubby start, and I am not the most accomplised prose writer the alternative does have the major advantage that it now links to the relevent articles such as Bagdad Railway etc. So hopefully that issue is not important now..?Shortfatlad (talk) 13:40, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Copyright issues
- The same (very similar) issue exists on History of rail transport in Turkey. In parts very close paraphrasing to TCDD history site, in parts seems to be an obvious copy. Copyright status unclear. No references at all. I have repeated requested those that add this information to reference it. But have been ignored so far.
- Comment - if users are going to re-add copyright violations after they have been removed as happened at History of rail transport in Turkey, but not attempt to resolve the problems, or make any attempt to reference the info they should note that this is basically unconstructive editing - and can't expect to get much in the way of leeway in terms of other contentious edits. At least from me. ie I'm not going to leave apparent copyright violations on the page on the hopeful assumption that at some point in the future someone will rewrite it or otherwise resolve the issue. This has already wasted enough of my time due to one editor refusing or being unable to understand the issue. Also the fact that the source of the info has been repeatedly given and has been confirmed by the original poster, yet the info is re-added unreferenced doesn't inspire me.

- The "table" which allegedly had copyright issues (?) was already removed. What's all this fuss about? You can now go to an English language course and improve your writing skills. 151.57.203.206 (talk) 03:49, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- And, for the note, it wasn't me who added that "table." You have also unfairly removed the images and information which I personally added, based on my personal "architectural" research regarding those buildings. 151.57.203.206 (talk) 03:53, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
- I'll move those images to a temporary gallery at the bottom for you.Shortfatlad (talk) 12:34, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Please note that minor grammatical changes are not the same as "writing the article in your own words" see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing, nor does abridging the content resolve copyright issues; both are still very much derivative works.Shortfatlad (talk) 20:14, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
