Hello Hurricanehink, I will be reviewing this article, before I go eat some corned beef and cabbage. :P As usual, there are only minor issues with the article, so reaching GA shouldn't take too much effort.--12george1 (talk) 23:58, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- "the first named storm to develop in the 1974 Atlantic hurricane season" - Wikilink tropical cyclone naming
- "was a short lived tropical storm that made a rare" - Maybe you should replace "tropical storm" with "tropical cyclone"
- "The storm formed from an area of cumulonimbus clouds along a disturbance associated with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) on August 12, but advisories were not issued until August 13, when it was named at peak intensity." - For the part before the first comma, maybe you should move the date closer to the beginning and being more specific about where Alma developed. Here's my suggestion: "The storm formed well east of the Windward Islands on August 12, from an area of cumulonimbus clouds along a disturbance associated with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ),". As for the part after the first comma, is this really important, "but advisories were not issued until August 13"? I think it should be fixed like this "By the following day, the system strengthened into a tropical storm and peaked with winds of 65 mph (100 km/h)".
- "After being named, Alma moved at an unusually brisk pace of between 20 mph" ----> "Thereafter, Alma moved at an unusually brisk pace of between 20 mph "
- "to be issued throughout the Caribbean, including Colombia." - What's so special about watches and warnings in Colombia? Several other countries and territories received watches and warnings too, but they aren't mentioned.
- "This brisk pace was also responsible for the small amount of time it spent over Trinidad, which totaled three hours." - Why is it important that Alma crossed Trinidad in three hours? There are storms that have crossed Florida in less than six hours.
- The second paragraph of the lead is a bit short compared to the first one. Maybe you could add more impact info, like "Alma was considered the most destructive storm in Trinidad during the 20th century". Maybe you might want to add some aftermath too.
- "damage on Trinidad, amounting to about $5 million (USD)." - What year was this? 1861? :P
- "developing into a tropical depression at 18:00 UTC on August 12" - Why is there a colon in the middle of the time?
- "intensified into Tropical Storm Alma about 375 mi (605 km) east of ... a circular eye with a diameter of 36 miles (58 km), the only" - Spell out the former and abbreviate the latter
- "23 mph (37 km/h), which NHC Director Neil Frank noted was unusually" ---> "23 mph (37 km/h), which National Hurricane Center (NHC) Director Neil Frank noted was unusually"
- "imagery faded, although the National Hurricane Center (NHC) noted the potential" ---> "imagery faded, although the NHC noted the potential"
- Oops, time is up. I have to go eat corned beef and cabbage now. :P I will finish this later.--12george1 (talk) 23:58, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- "becoming the southernmost landfall on that island since a storm in 1933. ... do so; the others were in 1605, 1725, and 1933." - When you said 1933, were you referring to the same system both times? If so, wikilink to the 1933 Trinidad hurricane in the former and delink it in the latter.
- " At around 02:00 UTC that day, the circulation passed near Caracas." - Again, what's with the colon? Or are we setting a new precedent?
- "was issued for Triniad, Tobago, Grenada, Saint Vincent" - Where's "Triniad"? I have never heard of that place :P
- On reference #11, the author should be Paul J. Hebert", not "Paul L. Hebert"
- Reference #13 is a deadlink
- That's the rest of the comments I have. Btw, just to clarify, I haven't been eating corned beef and cabbage for the last 24 hours. :P After these issues are addressed/fixed, I will be happy to pass this article and list it as a GA. Regards, --12george1 (talk) 23:54, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- Excuse me to interrupt, but Hink, did the clock go back to 2008? Why is the MH header titled "Storm history" and not "Meteorological history". YE Pacific Hurricane 00:13, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- All of the issues here were fixed/addressed. Therefore, I will pass this article.--12george1 (talk) 04:22, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
