Lost Island
[edit]If you drew a massive, 5,180-mile-radius circle around the coordinates 20°55'S 26°10'W, you would cross the ancient monuments of the Great Pyramid, Easter Island, Palenque, Dzibilchatun, Stonehenge, the Acropolis and the Island of Thera. Can this idea of another island be included in the article? It is not my research, it has been exhaustively explained in the book A New Look at an Old Design. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seraphnb (talk • contribs) 21:22, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
The position of the navy base seems to be in the SE, not in the north, when you look at Google's sattelite images.

coordinates
[edit]I suggest to check the coordinates. The longitude of Racha places it well west of the chain, almost exactly below Trindade rather than in the chain. The north and south islands have identical longitudes to the 1", while from the satellite image one expects delta_longitude about 1/10 delta_latitude, about 6". Clikking over the coordinates, I was unable to see something closet to the satellite image.
The area of Trindade is first 10.1 and then 10.3 km^2, resulting in 0.3-0.1 km^2 for Martin Vaz. Since a small number is suspect when obtained from the difference of two large ones, an explicit statement of the MV area seems nice.
two cosmetic suggestion: specify Trindade after the coordinates in the table and place the satellite image on the right of the island list rather than in the Trindade paragraph.

Splitting the page
[edit]to quote @Chaotic Enby from the discord: I'd say we should have an article for Trinidade, one for Martim Vaz and one for the archipelago of both (which could have the political and historical stuff while the other two are more geographical/geological)
To add, I had found this via some Wikidata work and noticing a bunch of other language wikis had had dedicated pages for the island of Trinidade. Akaibu1 (talk) 22:22, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
- Support splitting. My personal opinion is that this should be split into Trindade (island) (disambiguated as Trindade itself is a disambiguation page), Martim Vaz, and Trindade and Martim Vaz (no disambiguation on the last one). Keep this current article's title as-is and move details specific to the two islands to their own articles, leaving details on the archipelago as a whole and their connections to each other in this article. - Support as well on the idea of splitting it into Trindade (island), Martim Vaz, and Trindade and Martim Vaz. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 19:08, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
